Caravan Heart Translation Released
16 March 2008 1:35PM EST - Update by KaioShin
Official release announcement:
After 2 years of dedicated work, we’re proud to present the complete English translation of Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart.
I’d like to thank everyone on the team and everyone who contributed over the years for their support. I’d also like to thank all of the fans who left encouraging comments for us and who believed in this project until the end.
Please read the release notes bundled with the patch. They don’t just contain ‘boring’ technical information but also lots of background information about the game and the translation as well as some notes from our translator.

PO.B.R.E - POrtal Brasileiro de Romhacking e Emulação
06 March 2008 11:41PM EST - Update by gamer_boy
Do you like Romhacking.net? Do you often find yourself saying, “I like RHDN a lot, but I’d like it even more if there were something like RHDN in Portuguese”? Well, it’s your lucky day! A site that, according to the site’s spokesmen, is “a Brazilian Romhacking.net equivalent” called PO.B.R.E - POrtal Brasileiro de Romhacking e Emulação recently set up shop.
There top priorities are including news about the Portuguese Romhacking Scene, translations, other Romhacking related projects, and tutorials. Thus far the site contains a large number of documents and utilities and is looking to expand their Translations and ROM Hacks sections.
Want to know more about how this site came to be? Do that thing with your clicker right here and you’ll be transported to a thread on the Forum Unificado de Romhacking board that details the rise to power of this Brazilian powerhouse. Seriously, check it out.
Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem Translation
04 March 2008 9:24AM EST - Update by RPGuy96
The Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem translation patch is now complete. Join Prince Marth of Aritia in a remake of the original Fire Emblem in Book 1: The War of Darkness, and then an all new saga in Book 2: The War of Heroes. A great addition to any strategy RPG fan’s library, as well as those who recognize the name Marth from Super Smash Bros. Melee/Brawl.
Willow SRAM Hack
29 February 2008 6:01PM EST - Update by EnderWiggin
I’ve been working on a Willow ROM hack that will implement a save game feature into a game that previously used passwords. I’m doing this just to take a crack at NES hacking, and because I read somewhere that Willow was supposed to use battery backed RAM, but instead used a password system in order to cut production costs.
I also want to implement a feature to “skip” the dialog text and also a “run” button. Source code will be freely available to help anyone else out there looking to play around with the good old NES.
Currently, I have completed my Proof-of-concept hack, and I now have a Willow ROM that allows saving current progress by pressing SELECT-B and resuming the saved game by selecting PASS WORD in the opening screen, or CONTINUE after losing all your HP.
Puzzle Boy for the PCE.
29 February 2008 5:56PM EST - Update by KingMike
Today I am releasing an English translation patch for the PC Engine version of Puzzle Boy.
Puzzle Boy is a block-pushing puzzle game you may remember on the Game Boy as Kwirk. (Though there was also an FDS version called Puzzle Boys. That is because the FDS and GB versions had you controlling multiple characters on some levels, while the PCE version seems to be entirely a solo effort.)
This is a small translation that I think went well for a test effort on doing a PCE translation. Along with some docs from David Shadoff on the forum, I was able to piece together a translation with mednafen and a tracer version of HuGo. Though I wouldn’t recommend playing the game with the latter. It should be complete, but a couple of the later levels got me, so I haven’t been able to finish the game. I also don’t know if the Com-link mode needs any additional translation (haven’t heard of any emulators supporting the TurboExpress cable).
Googie's Lolo 2 hack
28 February 2008 9:49AM EST - Update by Googie
It’s finally done. Thanks to those who encouraged me to finish this hack. All the levels are edited to add more of an action oriented feel to Lolo2. Lolo fans will get their fix with this hack. There is now one more Lolo hack to add into the mix. Special thanks goes to bbitmaster for his editor Neptune. If it weren’t for him this hack wouldn’t exist. Enjoy…

Scrubby OSX Sprite Viewer / Editor
26 February 2008 8:56AM EST - Update by Matthew Callis
Scrubby is a tool to (eventually) edit sprites and other data in ROM files for OSX. There’s wasn’t an all purpose tool for this for OSX and I missed YY-CHR so I started Scrubby. Scrubby currently supports the following ROM image types:
- Nintendo / Famicom Disk System (2BPP)
- Super Nintendo (3BPP, 4BPP, 8BPP*)
- Game Boy (2BPP)
Right now all you can really do is view sprite data and save it, but I am finishing up editing the data. So far:
- Display ROM sprite data
- Save sprite data (PNG)
- Edit Sprite Data
- Import Edited PNG File
- Add other image formats
Staff Note - You can also find this archived here, currently categorized as a graphics viewer so as not to confuse the kids.
