Translation + Font updates

10 November 2007 11:07AM EST - Update by Kitsune Sniper

Translations News

After so much time slacking off, I’ve finally fixed two important bits in two different translations: Kid Dracula’s got the secret message put back in (do the Konami code at the title screen), and I also fixed Armadillo’s intro text. I can’t read, and I used two different names for the main character’s love interest in the intro.

Also of note is the first release of my Font Archive. Inspired by toma’s classic font archives (where my infamous KitsuneFont came from), I’ve begun a small archive of fonts that I feel would be suitable for usage in translations or romhacks. The archive includes eleven different fonts (in both NES 2BPP and BMP formats for easy usage both in tile and image editors). If you have any suggestions from any platform - as long as they’re 8×8 and I have the rom - I’ll see if I can add them to the archive.

Staff - You can get the updated patch for Armadillo here, and the updated patch for Kid Dracula here.

Tales of Phantasia PSX: Making the Energizer Bunny proud.

10 November 2007 10:30AM EST - Update by Cless

Translations News

The project that’s still going (for almost eight years now), Phantasian Production’s Tales of Phantasia PSX continues to roll along smoothly. Is the end finally in sight?

It sure seems to be! The script translation is now somewhere around 80%. The ASM hacking is almost done– there’s only one major thing left to add to the game: Subtitles for the game’s voice-only prologue battle. Other than that, just a small amount of refining and optimization.

That said, the ground work for skit subbing has been laid and we can get subtitles to appear on the screen when we want them. We’re now refining that hack to make them appear more like standard video subtitles.

A lot of cosmetic hacking has happened and I’m pretty much ready to call the layouts of the most recent set of screenshots to reflect what the final patch will look like. I am very satisfied with how it’s turned out.

I’ve put in some small additional content to the game. I added two insane extra difficulty levels (was a pretty easy hack) if for some reason the original hardest wasn’t enough for you. I’ve also added all encounters with the game’s nemesis to the game’s bestiary menu, who was mysteriously absent in the original game.

I’m trying to aim for a release within a few months. But the script revision process is going to be a very, very thorough and exhaustive one to ensure quality and accuracy.

Anyway, the unabridged version of this update can be found at my website, with perhaps too many screenshots (56k warning?).

Metal Max Returns: Roll out!

06 November 2007 12:28PM EST - Update by Gideon Zhi

Translations News

After an extremely lengthy betatest period, Aeon Genesis has released a completed translation of Metal Max Returns, a post-apocalyptic RPG with a strong emphasis on heavy artillery.

Metal Max is an open, nonlinear RPG with a heavy focus on sidequests and tank tweaking. The main game has you chasing bounty heads and finding new vehicles for your entourage, but there’s so much other stuff to do! You can pimp your tanks with decals and accessories, you can buy furniture and wall hangings for your home, play with little critters that eat your money and grow to enormous proportions, or enjoy a host of minigames. Go hunting for this week’s target and become a rich and famous bounty hunter!

GoldenEye 007: Silo Mission Released

05 November 2007 3:36AM EST - Update by Dragonsbrethren

ROM Hacks News

After a few weeks of work (And a few months of slacking off) my Silo mission has finally been released. The mission uses the same map as the original but plays entirely different, you must rescue hostages, prevent missiles from being launched, and unmask and eliminate the new leader of Janus. Check the readme or in-game briefing for a more detailed description of the storyline behind the mission.

Get it here or follow the relevant link to its page on Goldeneye Vault. A movie of SubDrag playing an earlier test version is available here. A few things have been changed since that movie was made but it should still give a good idea of how the mission plays.

Tales of Phantasia at 50%

04 November 2007 8:05PM EST - Update by Gemini

Translations News

Tales of Phantasia for the Playstation is almost here, guys, in English. After 2 months of work, we are proud to announce to you that the translation completion has passed the halfway mark. In other words, we have all of the Present, about half of the Past, and more than half of the Future completely translated. The hacking itself is complete and only a few bug fixes and some layout reworks remain for the in-game menus. As we’ve repeatedly stated, this patch will be fully compatible with real hardware on its first release, like my SOTN Italian translation was.

For a more complete vision of the overall progress, please visit our official thread here on Romhacking.net or Absolute Zero. More news coming in the next few days. Stay tuned. ;)
