ZSNES 1.50

ZSNES 1.50 has been released. There’s a big long changelog on the news section of the ZSNES website, but the really important note is that it has a cross-platform debugger.

So no more emulating DOS just to use ZSNES’s debugger.

On a related note, this release does break some translation patches. If you have released any translations, please check over it to ensure it works in 1.50, or users will be sorely disappointed.

STAFF NOTE: The debugger is only accessible via the -d command line parameter (but is at least compiled in with the general releases!)

Wonder Project J 2 Translation Announced

GBA Napoleon Campaign completely translated

Nebelwurfer HQ is releasing a final 0.50 patch for the French GBA Napoleon game. This patch completely translates the Campaign including all 30 scenarios and 7 flashback scenarios.

Quick Combat and Mini-game modes remain untranslated. Also there is a significant amount of dialog text from enemies and friendly generals that pops up during campaign scenarios that I did not catch.

However, the campaign is certainly playable at this point, and that is all that I set out to do. I hope players will enjoy all the twists that occur in the latter stages of the campaign. I would rather devote my limited time to other projects now.

You know I wouldn’t miss my own site’s birthday unless I had a good reason. I do. When you read this, I’ll be somewhere in Africa having just climbed the tallest freestanding mountain in the world or passed out trying! I will try and stop in and say hi if I come across an Internet terminal at an airport or on Zanzibar by the beach hotel. I’ll be back soon as long as I’m not eaten by Lions or other predators on safari and am still healthy! On to the speech!

Well, what can I say? The site is one year old already. This year has just flown by. When we started, I really had no idea if or how much this site would be accepted. It has surpassed all of my expectations. Some sections of our archive have doubled and tripled. We’ve had nearly 1.2 million unique visits in one year. I think that says something. It says we’ve woken up some of the members of this community sleeping in the corner. It says we’ve put a little bit of life, a little bit of unity, and a little bit of ‘community’ back into our ROMhacking world. With one good look at at our submission logs, as well as forum and site activity, it’s quite clear to me that this community is very much alive. I’d even go so far as to say it’s seen a bit of growth compared to recent years.

The content and features on the site have come far in the past year toward reaching the vision had for this site, but we’re not there yet. Site development and additional features will continue into 2007. We will continue to work toward our goal of putting more site functionality into your hands. Some site core revisions have been in the works to better facilitate allowing you to edit existing entries and keep our database up to date yourselves. It is our hopes that this approach will ensure ROMhacking.net is active and updated for a long, long time to come.

A big ‘Thank You’ goes out to our hard working staff and all of you that have contributed to our community whether it be submissions, bug reports, assisting in the decision making process, or just lending some comedic relief on the forum. ) One year is just the beginning of ROMhacking.net’s lifespan. It will continue to grow and be the most useful and up to date ROMhacking archive, news, and information site in the English speaking world as long as we as a community continue to utilize it and contribute to it. As long as the community lives, so shall ROMhacking.net!

Zelda: Link to the Past Gets Much Harder! And That's Not All!

With the purchase of the pre-order of The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker, a “hard-type” version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was included. It was titled Master Quest. It was the same story with different dungeons, usually harder.

I took this concept and adapted it to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Using Hyrule Magic, I have changed the dungeons around, making them harder than they were before, and I have also toughened up bosses by filling their arenas with obstacles, usually dangerous ones, or ones that will impede your immediate attack on the boss. (Look forward to the battle with Business Man Arrghus!)

The .zip file contains bonuses like changing The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past’s Link to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s Link!

(NOTE: The readme says that there’s only two holes that lead to a debug room. I had forgotten about another hole, in the sanctuary that may also lead to a debug room. Either way, these holes are trivial and the player must be brain-dead to fall into them since the holes only appear at very safe places)

Yonin No Translators moved the site!

Finally, after years of hosting on Darkmazda, YnT moves to its new home! Thanks to DM for the long hosting! Also, some project updates are there as well! In particular Arabian Nights!

Luigi vs Mario: Dead but Released

Yes, I finally decided it’s time to release what I DID get finish for Luigi vs Mario. For those who forgot, this is the rundown:

Luigi vs Mario was going to turn into Mario Adventure 2. The premise of the game was going to be collecting green coins which would be used to open up new locations. World transitions would work by pipe levels. There would be no kings castles, no airships. just a long adventure. The maps were going to be free roaming also. Alas, my brother reinstalled Windows and over wrote my progress. What you have here is the final version of Luigi vs Mario BEFORE I started the free roaming maps. The Green coins are here and in almost every level I have completed.

Worlds 1-4 for Luigi’s side are complete, along with half of World 5.

worlds 1 and 2 are complete for Mario’s side.

PATCH TO SUPER MARIO BROS. 3 (PRG 0) (U).NES!!!!

NOTE: There are still lots of bugs in this hack, so save state often!

Some people claim I just may be Santa because I always deliver the goods for Christmas! This year I give to you a full English translation of Wozz! For those of you who want the big speech, oodles of information, and history, it’s all in the readme file. I recommend you all give it a read. Give me a few minutes of your time for several years of mine. Fair trade?

Christmas came early this year because I will be gone on a trip for most of December. So, catch me on the message board while you can with any issues or words of support before I go.

I really hope you’ll enjoy a culmination of 4 years worth of my passion for and dedication to this hobby and community. I freely and proudly give you the opportunity to play Wozz in English. Mystic Balloon Released

It’s finally done. It took some tweaking to get the stage submission form working within WordPress, but it does now.

You can get the patch for the game from the Mystic Balloon page. Please submit any stages you design for it to the stages archive. Hope you enjoy this one.

When patching, make sure you patch the entire “mysbal” folder. Also of interesting note is that, as of now, the single stage D has submitted is entitled ROMH.
