The target ROM info was wrong. Patch is meant to be applied to Phantasy Star II (USA, Europe), NOT the (Rev A). How do I know that? Wayback machine, they used to distribute the patched rom. It matches MD5 checksum when NOT using the (Rev A) rom.

Block Dude port for NES

13 September 2018 9:10AM EST - Update by mitch3a

Homebrew News - RHDN Project Page

This is a port of the TI-83 (and other calcs) puzzle game Block Dude. In the game, you control Block Dude, whose powers are to pick up and put down one block at a time. He can also climb one block at a time! Using the blocks, you make your way to the door which brings you to the next level. The original was created by Brandon Sterner and was a joy when you were in class and your teacher thought you were doing your classwork. While there are ways to play it on a calculator still, if you prefer the NES, you can play this port :)

Final Fantasy IV - Ultima

11 September 2018 1:06AM EST - Update by 8.bit.fan

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

A ‘deluxe’ version of Final Fantasy II for the SNES. A beloved classic that was nerfed quite a bit when it was released back in 1991 in the US. Using editors such as ff4kster, it was quickly revealed that LOTS of content was dummied out and there were empty space for extra content.

This hack creates a ‘deluxe’ version of the game by using most of the available space to add a bunch of extra content such as:

  • 22 NEW WEAPONS
  • 11 NEW SPELLS
  • 8 NEW BOSSES, etc.

The story and the feel of the original game are kept more or less the same. Project II was used as a base for this.

Hope everyone enjoys the hack! :)

Laplace's Demon v2.00

07 September 2018 2:13AM EST - Update by Gideon Zhi

Translations News - RHDN Project Page

Today AGTP releases a complete translation for Laplace’s Demon, a Japanese-style RPG with a lot of western RPG sensibilities and a healthy dose of Lovecraft in its atmosphere. Set in the fictional town of Newcam, Massachusetts in the year 1924, Laplace’s Demon follows a team of paranormal investigators as they look into the disappearance of local eccentric Benedict Weathertop.

The original translation released in 2001 was… not up to snuff. There were loads of technical problems, not the least of which involved the font overwriting itself during text printing and the battle narrative almost always being out of order. The new translation fixes all of these; it is complete and mostly without any issues. See the readme for two known problems, at least one of which may be a bug present in the original game. There were a lot of those.

Given the enormity of the difference between the original v0.95 and the current release, it’s being tagged as a v2.00. Enjoy!

God Slayer, Japanese Version of Crystalis, Translation Complete + Project Announcement

05 September 2018 8:06AM EST - Update by Pennywise

Translations News - RHDN Project Page

This project initially began several months ago when Pennywise saw a tweet from Tom about wanting to retranslate this game. Ironically, Pennywise had had another translator look at the scripts for comparison purposes, but nothing ever came of it. Fast forward and we now have a complete translation of the original Japanese God Slayer for everyone.

While a solid translation for its time, Crystalis still suffered from the usual censorship and truncated script. This translation of God Slayer rectifies all that and gives interested players a chance to see what could have been.

We also discovered the existence of text in the main script of the game devs congratulating you on beating the game. As of this time, we still don’t know if it’s used or not and preliminary checks have not yielded anything.

Lastly, Tom and Pennywise have another project to announce. Discussed years back as a potential project, this translation has flown off the handles and is nearly done hacking-wise. The Nerdulus Constellation coming soon to a translation near you.

Resident Evil 2 for PC comes back under a new light

04 September 2018 9:51AM EST - Update by Gemini

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

Hyped for the remake of Resident Evil 2? Here’s a treat that you can’t pass on then: the latest Japanese PC port of RE2 (aka SourceNext) packed with HD resolution support, audio fixes, Win10 compatibility, and XInput support, not to mention the original translation hidden within code and data finally surfacing back into action.

If you needed an excuse to play the game once again but you were too afraid of bugs, poor compatibility, and Japanese everywhere, this patch is what you are gonna need. It’s also very easy to use: grab the official 1.1.0 patch, drop that and the DLL where the old game executable is, and you’re done – simple as that, really.

Metal Slader Glory NES English Translation Released

30 August 2018 7:14AM EST - Update by Pennywise

Translations News - RHDN Project Page

Today, August 30th, marks the 27th anniversary for the original Famicom release of Metal Slader Glory. It’s also the day we’ve decided to release the complete translation patch for.

The project began about a decade ago by Pennywise thanks to the help of a kartes. Along the way, Peter Barnard joined the team and translated the script over the course of several months. Years later the script was polished up by Eien ni Hen and then some time later, a grueling round of testing began. After some tweaks, finishing touches etc., the translation is now available to the public.

A big thank you to all those who helped along the way. Couldn’t have done it alone!

Lastly, Peter scanned and translated the manual for the game. The plan was to release it with the translation, but it is currently incomplete. The raw scans have all been edited and cleaned up, but about 5 or so pages need to edited into English. If there’s any photoshop whiz out there, we’d appreciate the help to finish the manual.
