A new patch release for FE6 for the GBA was released in October by Dark Twilkitri Net Translation Division. Since then, the project has been delayed and the group is looking for help. Anybody interested in helping out should contact them.

Jade v0.2

Jade, a Final Fantasy 2 (NES) hacking utility written by Lenophis, has been updated to version v0.2. The list of changes are immense, but among the highlights are a world map editor, the ability to wipe out all the data (that Jade knows of) which allows you to start your hack fresh, and fixes for the ROM contained within IPS files.

SMILE is a drag and drop style Super Metroid level editor written by Jathys. Version .70 adds a boat load of new features. What’s new you ask?

  • Re-Added Pointer Pop-Ups
  • Added partial support for Area Load Stations
  • Added support for enemy palettes to be converted to YY-Char format
  • Rip/Save scenery palettes to/from TLP/YY-Char formats
  • Rip/Save scenery graphic sheets for editing in a tile editor
  • Added support for editing tile tables (ie- choose which 8×8’s make p the 16×16 tiles)
  • Changed CRE ignoring to be done based on area (Ceres) instead of the sheet number
  • Added support for an ASM code (available at a later date) to allow for more than one bank to be used for enemy populations
  • Lots of bug fixes
  • Lots of stuff I’m either forgetting or choosing not to list

Temporal Flux 2.00 Released

Geiger, with the assistance JLukas and Chickenlump, has released version 2.00 of his editor Temporal Flux for Chrono Trigger (it can edit locations, maps, music instrumentation, strings, events, etc.). The changes are too innumerable to list almost every part of the program has been updated, and new features are now available that make editing Chrono Trigger easy and accessible even to fans with no prior rom hacking experience. ROMhacking.net is Officially Open for Business!

Welcome everybody to ROMhacking.net! After many months of work, this site is officially open! However, the work is far from done. This is an ongoing effort to provide the best ROMhacking community site we can. Many additional features are on the way. We have continual open development discussions in our forums, so pop by if you’re interested in where the site is going and have something to say!

I’m going to spare you from a long speech. If you want to know what this site is all about and how it came to be, visit the ‘About this Site’ section. All you need to know is right there! We have much more material to offer than ROMhacking.com ever did. So, spread the word!

Our resident staff member Neil_ of former ROMhacking.org glory had this to say:

“Finally, the archive is back online. Hopefully the third time is the charm as we seem to be running out of major TLDs. This time I am only minimally involved, so hopefully it’ll last more than a year.”

Sin & Punishment

Vanit has released a translation of Sin & Punishment (aka Tsumi to Batsu) for N64.

Note that this is done through a texture-replacement feature with a specific plug-in, as opposed to a ROM patch. (Rice’s Video Plug-in 6.1.0. You may want to check how it works on your system before downloading the 5 MB texture pack from his site.)

zHAOsILi's pcsx debugger

This isn’t exactly new (released almost a year ago), but if you’re working on a Playstation hack and you’ve been looking for another debugger to try, you might want to check this little thing out. It’s not an all encompasing debugger, but it is very very useful and probably one of the better psx debuggers currently out there.

It’s got the standard debugging fare: memory, instruction, and register display, memory and register read/write breakpoints. A very nice little thing to have if you’ve been relying on psemu pro’s ancient and not-at-all interactive debugger.

FCEUXD SP v1.06

sp has released another version of his extensive NES debugging emulator, FCEUXD SP, with a minor bug fix and small feature addition. sp reports that the bug, pertaining to conditional breakpoints, “occurred when using numbers with leading zeros.” While correcting this minor issue sp also took the opportunity to change the creation of the .deb files, which previously were created on every run of the emulator, and are now only saved when the debugging window is actually used.

King Colossus translation updated

The recently released translation of King Colossus for the Sega Genesis got an update to version 051203. The patch fixes a compatibility problem with the emulator Gens and further updates the readme with answers to common problems regarding the game.

evo failed to mention in his previous news post that he included in his zip file compression tools and source code for dealing with the compressed data in R-Type 2 for the GameBoy. I have taken the liberty of adding it to our lovely utilities collection.
