Super Nintendo

Game Description:

How did this escape being reviewed? Earthbound, otherwise known as “Mother 2″ in Japan, was (and still is) a wildly popular game on the SNES. This one….this one is weird, I won’t lie to you folks. It’s like pop references from the last 7 years of that game’s release (roughly 7, I’d guesstimate) mixed in with English//Japanese humor in an acid trip that starts out slow and gets worse the more you truck along with it.

So why was/is it so popular? Exactly because of that. This game barely takes ANYTHING seriously, much less itself. At one point you have to get an item from an inventor to remove a giant iron pencil statue blocking your path. I’m not even kidding.

You start the game with a boy named Ness (default), who is awoken by a meteorite crashing in his hometown. Armed with a baseball bat and your trusty dog (for a very short time), you get to see what all the commotion is about, and the journey begins. Though you stay in your hometown for awhile, which really isn’t typical of RPG’s especially in the SNES era. Yes, your hometown DOES NOT get destroyed nor your family slaughtered.

Again, this game is WEIRD, man. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad. There’s a reason it’s still popular in a world of PS3 and XBOX 360. If you get bored one day, give this a try, it will at the very least give you some chuckles.
