Kung Fu is a port of a 1984 arcade game named Kung Fu Master. It was released for the Nes in 1986. It is a side scrolling action game where you punch your way through bad guys in a five story pagoda type building called Devil’s Castle. A lot like that one Bruce Lee movie, Enter the Dragon, I think. But the premise of the game is to save your girl who’s been kidnapped by Mr. X. You fight through purple shirt wearing grapplers, midget Tom Tom brothers, knife throwers, killer confetti balls and some other stuff in each to get to the boss of the stage. Each boss requires a particular strategy to beat him. You might be able to get away with just running up and beating the crap out of the first two bosses if you have enough energy but, don’t try that on the third boss!
The controls are OK except I hate having to press up to jump. One button is to punch and the other is to kick.
The graphics are par for the course for the NES at that time. The background is just a plain blue with a bare shell of a pagoda for a floor and ceiling. It doesn’t look anywhere near as detailed or colorful as it’s arcade counterpart.
The sound is not too memorable with the level being three or four bars long and constantly repeating.
Playability, I think there is plenty of playability in this game. It’s not overly difficult and has a variety of enemies to keep things interesting.
Kung Fu is a side scrolling beat’em up action game. It was one of the first NES games to come out. It’s pretty self explanatory, you punch and kick your way through five levels to save Sylvia from the clutches of Mr. X.
This game was translated to Spanish.
