Amazing Hack

Reviewed By: MetroidMst on 03 Jan 2012

So this hack was completely out of the blue and unexpected by all of my Metroid Hacking friends around the world. But despite no real knowledge of its existence it is probably one of the top two Super Metroid hacks made. It is a really good way of trying to mesh both Super and Zero Mission together. The world keeps parts of both games, and throws in some completely new stuff as well. The game also has a lot of ASM in it too, which means some completely new things you haven’t seen in a Super Metroid hack before. Enough of a preface, time for the good and bad.

Good: New slightly similar, but completely different world to explore. Game is based highly on exploration. Lots of items to collect. Many hidden secrets. World is very interconnected. Very clever use of bosses. Graphical hints are always in place for things you need to get to. There are multiple ways to get some items, like X-Ray or even early Powerbombs.

Bad: If you miss a hint, you will be looking around for a long time trying to find what you missed.

Not much to the bad section, but in reality, if you do miss a hint like I did a couple of times in my 6:30 hour blind run of it, you will be lost and frustrated. But otherwise there really isn’t anything to complain about. Some bosses may be a tad bit on the hard side, but a little challenge isn’t a bad thing. On top of that the hack is really only challenging to get %100 item collection. Doing so requires some amazing skill.

In the end, this is easily one of the must-plays for Super Metroid hack fans. It is big. It has some amazing things put in it, most dealing with the bosses, which I won’t spoil for you. This is simply one you have to try out.

On top of that, the “Hard Mode.” This is supposed to turn Super Zero Mission into a pain fest. It succeeds pretty well in doing so. I personally find the normal hack to be much better, but for those of you who really want a challenge, it just may fit your needs.
