Description:
Super Mario Land DX is a romhack of the original Super Mario Land for the Game Boy that turns the game into a Game Boy Color game. It adds color and changes the graphics to give the game a modern look.
v2.0 (20/04/2022):
- Framerate issues have been addressed. That includes issues in the original game, especially noticeable in 3-2 (hard mode).
- Mario’s sprites have been revamped. They are mostly the same size as the originals.
- Mario’s relative position when jumping has been fixed. This was responsible for the weird collision issues in v1.0 (yeah, it wasn’t the sprites).
- Luigi has been added. He has slightly different physics.
- Old graphics are now an option. Not all graphics are unchanged, as it mostly affects the sprites, but this should be good enough for people who didn’t like the new ones.
- A shortcut to difficult mode has been added.
- New palette for Superball Mario/Luigi.
- New animation for Super Mario/Luigi when looking up.
- New animation for Super Mario/Luigi when entering a pipe.
- Options menu added to accommodate the new options.
- Battery added to permanently save your options, top score and level selection.
- Every single stage’s colors have been tweaked.
- An incompatibility screen for the original Game Boy has been added.
- Hundreds of minor (and not so minor) changes and fixes.

Stunning DX, should be an official release !

Like SML2 DX from the same author, the color palette choices are stunning and tasteful, even in the small details. The new Daisy sprite is absolutely gorgeous. This could (and should) be an official Nintendo release !
No technical issue to report, I could finish the game without a single bug.
A minor niptick : Tatanga’s sprite doesn’t seem to be colorized as thoroughly as the rest of the game. He and his ship are just shades of purple, which is fine but I think his ship could use a more detailed colorization. Maybe make the ship grey, yellow and red to match the official artwork if possible.
Now the controversial part, Mario’s sprite : I think it looks great. Yes he is bigger than before and his hitbox remains the same. I thought this would be an issue but it turns out it didn’t affect my gameplay. The only small gripe I have with it is that the enemy sprites are a little bit small in comparison. But it matches the new Daisy sprite very well. All things considered I like the new sprite.

Edit v2.0 : This new update takes an already amazing hack to a whole new level. The new sprite redesigns are great and that option menu, man ! I’m impressed. I really hope the hack author is gonna do SML3 - Wario Land after this.
