Monster Hunter Portable 3rd is an action role playing game for the PlayStation Portable.
Translation Description:
In this release we have attempted to update our unofficial translations with those of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. That means a lot of monster names and item names have changed (yes, even Nibelsnarf), which’ll probably throw you off for a little while. You’ll get used to it! This is complete for the most part but is still getting some minor updates. Enjoy!
Two methods of patching are included in the download. One is in the form of a patcher that targets an ISO, while the other is a plugin to be loaded by a PSP with custom firmware.
Some translated DLC quests are also included, which are to be put in the SAVEDATA folder of the memory stick.

In a nutshell… Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (MHP3) is not merely a port of MH3 for the PSP. It’s a completely different game with different maps and a new village; but uses the MH3 engine.
Unlike Monster Hunter Tri / 3 Ultimate (MH3U) and its “fishing village” theme, complete with water combat, MHP3 features an East Asian theme (similar to Monster Hunter Rise) and no water combat.
Think of it as a different game using the same game engine as MH3U. Similar to how Monster Hunter Generations is the same 4th gen engine as Monster Hunter 4.
Complexity and depth… it’s on par with MH3 but without the swimming or water combat. It is less complex than MH4 and Generations. MHP3 has its own charms though, certainly.
If you have played MH Generations (Ultimate), and wondered where Yokumo Village was from, it’s from MHP3. In fact, you’ll notice that MHG/U only has villages from the “other game” in each generation, including the village from Freedom 2/Unite instead of MH2’s village. It has MH1’s village because Freedom 1 did not change the village, even though it is the refined “G”/”Ultimate” version of Monster Hunter 1.
The Translation:
It works and it will get you through the game. It helps if you have played another Monster Hunter game before, especially MH3/3U, MH4/U and/or MHGen/U.
Most of the village dialog is translated. Pretty much the “Wisdom of the Chief” parts of the tutorial are still in Japanese. It helps if this is not your first MH game, because then you’d pretty much know what to do for those first 10 quests even without the Chief’s guidance. (The recipe “Combine” tutorial might stump you if you’re unfamiliar with it. Just remember to combine Herb and Blue Mushroom to make Potion, then combine Potion and Honey to create Mega-Potion.)
Item and monster names and such match the official translations as best it can.
Combine it with the “HD version” texture patch (Google “Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD PSP”) if playing on PPSSPP. It will look close to a PS3/WiiU game. In fact, there actually is an official HD port of MHP3rd for PS3 but it was never translated. Maybe it will someday.
