Barver Battle Saga: Tai Kong Zhan Shi

Sega Genesis

Game Description:

Barver Battle Saga: Tai Kong Zhan Shi is a role playing game for the Sega Genesis.

Translation Description:

Just in time before the years end, the English translation of the Taiwanese unlicensed RPG Barver Battle Saga for the Sega Genesis is finally released! Lots of work has gone into this project, and I hope everyone will enjoy it.

Be sure to check the read me for more about the game, who did what, and all the work that went into getting this game into English.

The latest patch, v1.00, can be considered a final release of sorts. At the least, it’s not a “beta” anymore. The game has already been played thoroughly and most issues appear to have been spotted and fixed. Hopefully there should be no more bugs left. So, enjoy the game! :)

Mixes Many Other RPGs

Reviewed By: Klaviaturist on 23 Jan 2011

I will start by saying this game is no masterpiece. It doesn’t mean it’s not fun but the battle system gets very tiring because you are constantly battling. But the game is interesting in that it seems to use many sprites from other games and the battle system is almost identical to that of Breath of Fire 1 and 2 (with some minor differences). I don’t know anything about the making of this game but from playing it through the game has the feel of an extensive hack of numerous RPGs. As a result it was very interesting to play through.

Where the game shines though is in its music. The music for the game was incredible. There was many a time after playing that I would get certain tunes stuck in my head. I am not sure whether or not this music was used in another game but it certainly helped to make the game experience worth while.

In short, the game was not great but for old school RPG gamers (like myself) the game was fun enough for a play through just to see all the elements from other RPGs.
