Fire Emblem: Vision Quest

Hack of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

The continent of Yaska is home to six nations, but the largest and most powerful is Nevan, an Empire composed of states that swear allegiance to the Emperor. In the rural state of Belaro, Lord Gradin, head of state, imposes cruel taxes on the people and jails those that cannot pay.

A young farmer, Storch, along with his hometown friends, fear the worst. Seeking to protect themselves and their families, they look to procure funds through less than savory means. Conflicted, the group begins their plunge into banditry in hopes for a better tomorrow.

Vision Quest is a hack of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones by Pandan and his friends. It was created using FEBuilder, and it is 34 chapters long with 9 additional gaidens. Normal mode is recommended for a first run of the game and is what it is balanced around.

Vision Quest includes:

  • Story set on a new continent, Yaska.
  • 41 chapters
  • 62 playable characters
  • Concept known as ‘inverse branched promotions’ (ie There’s an unpromoted Axe Fighter and Bow Fighter class, then they promote into Warrior and gain the weapon they couldn’t use unpromoted.)
  • Custom weapons (and rehashes of Kaga-era weapons)
  • Early game Warp & Rescue.
  • Generic female enemies.
  • Armor knights with 5 move. (because Pandan wants you to use them)
  • Pared down skills to give units a niche without making anything wonky
  • Each class gets a skill at level 15 unpromoted, mono-weapon infantry get a crit bonus at level 5 promoted. Thieves come with steal/cunning and rogues get Steal+ at lvl 5.
  • Universal promotion items
  • Stronger bows (and no 1 range BS).
  • Fog of War
  • FE5 style trading
  • New (and old) tracks
  • Escape maps with spooky bosses.
  • Tellius style supports
  • Convoy Combine feature - can merge used items into a single item.
  • For additional information, such as links to the soundtrack and tier list creator, additional screenshots, and Pandan’s personal introduction, please see the Fire Emblem Universe thread.

Excellent. I’ll get right to it.

Vision Quest has much to offer. I see from the forum on this hack that it took a good couple of years to finish and it shows. From the start the writing is superb and is throughout the mod. Has a litany of characters and are quite interesting and has decent villains. Needless to say, the writing here more than fits the style.

There is of course more, added are skills like in Path Of Radiance and really make a difference. Even same class characters can get something different adding variety. Promotion items are not class specific unless the story demands it which is a relief and are enough to ensure all your characters are battle ready. The creators even give you instruction on certain battles that are a excellent touch. On map stats of every unit displaying basics and items. Talk option to either help with support or possible recruitment in the character status and on map with a little speech bubble, even some battles you may be separated, but still have the option to formation.

I guess the only con is already promoted characters. Some have okay stats, but some are quite strong too. So, not really a con.

Anyway, this is a long story. Keeps you engaged and will take a while to beat, but it’s great all the way through.

As I did point out, this did take a few years to create. There is a sequel announced and I would love one now, but I’ll be more than glad to wait. This is a labor of love from Fire Emblem fans and needs to be played. Hell, add it to the Fire Emblem universe.
