Over-Simply A Work Of Art

Reviewed By: Eldrethor on 28 Oct 2021

Like fine junk food, I love a good novelty hack every now and then. This hits the spot in ways that were fun for a short while but wears out its welcome pretty quickly.

Remember those images where they censor something unspeakable with a blocky blur effect? This is pretty much what you get if you applied that to all of Pac-Man and cranked it up to eleven. The results look ridiculous, but it’s goofy fun for the first five minutes or so. Unfortunately, the novelty wears off soon after that, and that’s when the graphics become an eyesore. There’s no score visible, and each increase in difficulty is worsened by the extra mental overhead that comes with having all of the fine details stripped away, making it harder to distinguish between what’s safe to touch and what’s not.

Do I recommend this? Sure, it’s dumb, goofy fun for a few minutes, and it’s worth a few good laughs. One can even argue that this is interactive modern art, a thought-provoking expression of how entertainment has become so fleeting that we’ve lost sight of the finer details, becoming negligent of whether what we’re consuming is fruit or a ghost. Whatever the case is, it’s worth a download, even if it gets tiresome quickly. Many thanks to IvyWolf for this interesting hack.
