Fire Emblem: Vision Quest

Hack of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Description:

The continent of Yaska is home to six nations, but the largest and most powerful is Nevan, an Empire composed of states that swear allegiance to the Emperor. In the rural state of Belaro, Lord Gradin, head of state, imposes cruel taxes on the people and jails those that cannot pay.

A young farmer, Storch, along with his hometown friends, fear the worst. Seeking to protect themselves and their families, they look to procure funds through less than savory means. Conflicted, the group begins their plunge into banditry in hopes for a better tomorrow.

Vision Quest is a hack of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones by Pandan and his friends. It was created using FEBuilder, and it is 34 chapters long with 9 additional gaidens. Normal mode is recommended for a first run of the game and is what it is balanced around.

Vision Quest includes:

  • Story set on a new continent, Yaska.
  • 41 chapters
  • 62 playable characters
  • Concept known as ‘inverse branched promotions’ (ie There’s an unpromoted Axe Fighter and Bow Fighter class, then they promote into Warrior and gain the weapon they couldn’t use unpromoted.)
  • Custom weapons (and rehashes of Kaga-era weapons)
  • Early game Warp & Rescue.
  • Generic female enemies.
  • Armor knights with 5 move. (because Pandan wants you to use them)
  • Pared down skills to give units a niche without making anything wonky
  • Each class gets a skill at level 15 unpromoted, mono-weapon infantry get a crit bonus at level 5 promoted. Thieves come with steal/cunning and rogues get Steal+ at lvl 5.
  • Universal promotion items
  • Stronger bows (and no 1 range BS).
  • Fog of War
  • FE5 style trading
  • New (and old) tracks
  • Escape maps with spooky bosses.
  • Tellius style supports
  • Convoy Combine feature - can merge used items into a single item.
  • For additional information, such as links to the soundtrack and tier list creator, additional screenshots, and Pandan’s personal introduction, please see the Fire Emblem Universe thread.

    An excellent Fire Emblem hack

Reviewed By: Recca on 13 Oct 2021

Fire Emblem: Vision Quest is a hack that uses Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (also known as Fire Emblem 8) as a base to tell an all new original story. What sets the storyline apart from most others in the Fire Emblem series is that the main character is not a prince or any other type of royalty or member of nobility. Instead, the main character is a simple rural farmer named Storch, who along with his childhood friends must raise money by any means necessary to support their families and in order to pay the harsh taxes imposed on them by the corrupt ruling class of their country. And as can be expected, the heroes later on find themselves engaged in something much more complicated and grand. They later end up caught in both war and politics and must fight for not only the future of their village, but that of the entire continent.

Besides an all new and original storyline, this hack also features custom graphics, modified unit classes, new music used from other games and re-balanced gameplay. This is yet another great Fire Emblem hack that is a must play for all fans of the series and of the three GBA games in particular. It definitely ranks somewhere at the top of the greatest Fire Emblem hacks ever made so far, along with The Last Promise, The Road to Ruin, Order of the Crimson Arm and Dark Lord and The Maiden of Light. It’s also a fairly long hack with a lot of well designed maps, characters and interesting plot elements and twists to it. So if you’re a fan of this series, be sure to give Fire Emblem: Vision Quest a try. It’s without a doubt, one of the best hacks ever made and released so far.
