Hack of Streets of Rage 2

Description:

Streets of Rage 2 - Final Fight Crossover 2019-2020

SPECIAL AIR COMBO (AIR JUGGLE) EDITION

October 2020 update

Hack Author: Dha Lau Hoo

This hack is a special edition of “Streets of Rage 2 - Final Fight Crossover 2019-2020″ (https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/4527/). However, the game play is very different, so it is released as a separate hack.

A demo video is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UiarhOf6tU

A demo video of the newest update (V1.30ac, Oct 2020) is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neysWA9jL6Q

As the title suggests, players can perform air combos to deliver much more damage to the enemies. However, this lowers the difficulty of the game, so the default difficulty is set to hard.

Special Edition Updates:

  • Air juggling/combo is possible. Kick your enemies into the air and punch them as hard as possible! (just like early MK2 and SFA3)
  • The color theme of the player characters becomes more similar to their first appearances in their original games.
  • Default difficulty is changed to hard.
  • Some moves have been modified to fit in the air combo system.
  • Player characters have new animations when they escape from being thrown (up + C).

Version 1.30ac (October 2020) updates:

  • Fixed some sprites of Cody and Chun-Li.
  • Cody now has a run animation.
  • Cody can perform a dodge roll by pressing up or down with A.
  • Cody no longer has a charge move.
  • Fixed some collision detections of Cody, Guy and Mike.

Previous System Updates:

  • All playable characters can run and change direction and turn around while running (just like Cadillacs & Dinosaurs).
  • All playable characters can jump further while running (just like Cadillacs & Dinosaurs).
  • The command to run (f, f) becomes more sensitive.
  • Players can still move after defeating each boss (just like Cadillacs & Dinosaurs).
  • Offensive Special no longer costs player’s own health.
  • If the player presses A while running, the player’s character will perform Offensive Special (in the original game, nothing will happen).
  • The playable characters will gain approximately half second of invulnerability after then end of a Defensive Special (just like Cadillacs & Dinosaurs).
  • In V1.05ac, charge attacks require holding B for only 2/3 second.
  • V1.21ac (2020 revision) features color fix, sound fix, jump lag fix, and some minor adjustment to improve gameplay.
  • V1.25ac features new title screen, and new run animation for Chun-Li

Awesome Streets of Rage and Final Fight Crossover!!

Reviewed By: RHZ on 07 Mar 2021

Awesome crossover between two of the best beat ‘em up franchises of all time!! Very polished hack with a new intro, title screen and character portraits. The three playable characters from Final Fight and Chun Li from Street Fighter II are incredibly well integrated and feel like they belong to this game. They even can use weapons in the game. I specially like some of the running animations for these new characters. And the juggling system gives this games a different feel to the vanilla Streets of Rage 2 and it’s very fun to use. The ability to choose the harder difficulty levels from the beginning is really appreciated as the running and juggling makes the game easier. It’s great fighting Akuma from Street Fighter in the last stage, it’d be great adding some more Street Fighter characters as bosses (Ryu and Ken at the same time would be epic) or even evil versions of the playable characters from SOR2 for variety.

Just a suggestion regarding the music. As awesome as the Streets of Rage 2 soundtrack is, adding some songs from the first Streets of Rage would give the hack a different flavour from the vanilla SOR2 game by mixing the best songs from both OSTs. For repeated playthroughs it’d be great having a slightly different soundtrack from the original game. If possible, some less memorable songs like Spin on the bridge, Ready Funk, Too Deep and Jungle Base could be replaced for awesome tracks from the first SOR like Fighting in the Street, Moon Beach, Keep the Groovin’, Violent Breathing or Attack of the Barbarian.

Another small suggestion. This Final Fight 3 version of Haggar feels great, but in my opinion the vertical supplex move from Final Fight 1 or 2 when you grab an enemy was quicker and more fluid than the one used in Final Fight 3.

Overall, it’s a highly recommended Streets of Rage 2 hack for all beat ‘em up fans!! It’s really fun to play!!
