Pokémon Crystal Version - Dunsparce Edition

Hack of Pokémon: Crystal Version

Pokemon Crystal - Dunsparce Edition is a hack of the original Pokemon Crystal. Many improvements have been made such as all 251 Pokemon being available to be caught legitimately, new moves, new type changes, and so on.

Please patch this to an existing Pokemon Crystal ROM using a program like LunarIPS.

Great concept, sloppy execution

Reviewed By: jbsq on 18 Jan 2021

This hack could be great as a QoL & hard-mode crystal hack. However, it needs some polish. Some of the flaws I can speak of are

  • Normal and fighting moves hitting ghost Pokémon
  • Electric moves affecting Quilava despite its ground typing
  • Scyther is supposed to evolve into Scizor at level 34 if its defense is greater than its attack (which is not realistically happening)
  • Pikachu is supposed to have a chance of holding a light ball, yet after 100+ Pikachu’s caught I got nothing more than a handful of berries (to be fair it could just be me getting really unlucky)
  • The difficulty is supposed to be generally upped, but the only difference I found is gym leaders and bosses fights to be 3-5 levels above their vanilla counterparts. Add the existence of some broken Pokémon alongside weak wild Pokémon and weak regular trainers, and you get a pretty unbalanced hack

All in all, I do like the concept behind this hack and think it has potential. I’d love to see this become a Pyrite-ish hack with QoL improvements and mechanics such as the already implemented PSS.
