Lord Monarch: Legendary Battle Royale (original title - Tokoton Sentou Densetsu) is a real-time strategy (RTS) game for Sega Mega Drive released in 1994.
It’s probably the best version of Lord Monarch - unlike SNES and original NEC PC-98 versions, it features an original Story Mode, where you play as Prince Al of Monarch Kingdom as he goes on an adventure where he meets a cast of cheerful characters, such as Princess Rubia or Spanky the fairy. Each chapter introduces a special gimmick to keep you on your toes, so it’s a must-see game for fans of the franchise. The Challenge Modes from Lord Monarch and Advanced Lord Monarch are present here too, so it’s like three games in one.
Though very simple to pick up, this game has a deep set of rules to master. You and your opponents take the role of opposing kingdom leaders. Up to four countries can participate in a single map; however, there can only be a single winner. You must defeat every other country to achieve victory. Soldiers of both sides will automatically occupy territory, so players need to bide their time carefully in order to expand and surpass the enemy. The player has to be careful of terrain and the constantly fluctuating amount of funds while they keep the enemy and roaming monsters in check. If you can defeat the enemy leader, you will obtain their territory.

This is a full English translation patch for Sega MD version of Lord Monarch. It is 100% complete - the dialogues, UI elements, manual and even “Lord Monarch” tile-mapped logo on tutorial map have been fully translated.

High quality translation for a great game
Reviewed By: cireza on 22 Dec 2020Lord Monarch has always been a game I wanted to play. When discovering it, quite some time ago, I was really impressed by the fantastic presentation (visuals, music) as well as the very promising gameplay.
Sadly, I could not make it far in the game as there are special objectives to achieve starting from Chapter 2, and got stuck. I had to put aside this game, which was disappointing.
When I heard about this translation, I was very happy. And let’s be clear : the work done here is outstanding. This is a top quality translation. I have been playing the game on my Everdrive (the very first one) and it works flawlessly.
You can easily see all the effort that was put in this translation, from the very pretty font, all the specific text boxes and so on. There is a lot of humor as well, I cannot tell how close it is to the original, but it sets a great mood for the game. I am currently near the end of Chapter 4, and the game was fantastic so far. Chapter 3-3 was extremely challenging, but I somehow made it.
I have been enjoying translations in recent times on SEGA hardware (Moldorian on Game Game is another recent example), and really appreciate the hard work of the talented community. I will try to write a review about this game on a French website, to spread the word. I hope that we will see other MegaDrive titles translated, Hybrid Front is a good candidate.

Edit : so I reached the end of the game today, and can confirm that everything went well until the end, and that the translation was top notch. The game was fantastic, easily one of the best on the console. It was challenging, but very fun. I highly recommend it !
