Description:

Rockman 7 EP is a complete romhack of Rockman 7 (NOT Mega Man 7). Expect all new (and some familiar) level designs, mid-boss battles, auto-scrolling sections, shop items, enemy and Robot Master attack patterns, weapon behaviors, and a lot more. It also enables in-game switching of weapons and adaptor.

Apply patch to Rockman 7 (Japanese version) with No Header, NOT Mega Man 7 (USA version).

  • Fixed a glitch in Special Thanks credits.
  • Apply patch to an unmodded ROM! Don’t apply on prepatched v1.0x ROM!

It gives Mega Man 7 a second life

I’d never know the author would be the same person(s) who made Rockman 4 MI, until scrolling down at the author’s home page. This hack is SUPER creative at almost every single detail of stage and system, in the result metamorphs into a completely new Mega Man game title on its own.

Game difficulty: 9.9/10 Tough, but possible. Keep in mind this game encourages buying as much E tanks as possible and trade hits with minor enemies in order to make progress (to make up for it, the modified shop system now needs only little currency to purchase all consumables) so if in serious crisis, don’t hesitate and fast open pause menu, then eat up E tanks to make short works out of troublesome situation.

Creatively: 9.7/10. The game keeps throwing creative battle scenarios - from things mixed with old and new ideas from various Mega Man games, to even borrowing interesting factors from other franchises such as Gradius and Castlevania - to the point that one may believe a modified SNES ROM file with the size of 4m isn’t enough to present the author’s brainstorms, and even has autoscrollers and shooting stages clearly inspired from Mega Man 8 (!!) If you’re curious go and check the modified game yourself, and when you finally beat the modified game by yourself, you won’t regret your spent time as you were having a whole new retrospective miracle adventure with love letters to the good old golden times of all 90s sidescrolling action games, not just Mega Man.

Degrees of Polish: 8.9/10. Though this hack/mod is outstandingly good it has a few questionable spots that will frustrate even the veteran Castlevania and Mega Man players a lot; One of the branching paths responsible for storing R - U - S - H plates in Wily 1 requires player to avoid the ever-rising toxic water as much as possible but at about the medium of the path, a mid- boss class mini dinosaur is standing on the only stable platform in the room without the risk of drowning in toxic water; and to make it worse, the mini dinosaur has a considerable amount of HP which make it not possible to pass the specific screen without using two or three E tanks. To make the situation worse, if you die at the dinosaur, the game not only throw you back to the beginning but also won’t give you chance to *easily* restore extra lives, (there IS an extra life at the start of toxic water path, but it requires a WAY TOO precise jump (SUB PIXEL-PERFECT) to reach it) make it easily to get stuck in this stage unless you’re super lucky to be able to take down that dinosaur in-time and then reach the end of toxic water path without dying. Another frustration factor would be the stage you’d fight Wily Machine & Capsule, both the nonstop gauntlet against 8 main bosses and Wily himself are soul-crushingly hard: 1) not only you need to beat 8 main bosses in a straight gauntlet but checkpoint only register AFTER the 8 main bosses gauntlet - which means if dying at any of 8 main bosses you lost the whole progress… 2) to make it worse, Wily Capsule has a certain instant-death move which is guaranteed instant kill if not finding correct solution of it, and the consumables at Wily Capsule preparation screen won’t refresh when you’ve been defeated by Wily Capsule and ready to try it a second chance, making it possible to run out of lives. Also the robot museum bonus stage has some bad sprite flickering problems and slowdowns which makes up my mediocre first experience of the stage. (I’m wondering: is the real SNES capable to run those complex effects in Wily Capsule fight and Forte/Bass fight in this game?) But in other stages, the degree of polish is acceptable, especially considering the author’s effort to make the huge amount of changes to the game system, stage design and scenarios possible. If there’s gonna be future update(s) I’d like to see the two frustration factors I mentioned be tweaked to make them less frustrating.

Overall I’d recommend this hack/mod to any Mega Man fan with experience of Rockman 4 MI and other similar hacks in style, they would feel right at home, and it’s worth every veteran Mega Man player’s trying given the fact all the scenarios are compressed inside a patched SNES game ROM file with the size of only 4m(!!!)
