I'm not as excited as others...

Reviewed By: Spooniest on 12 Sep 2020

I’ve been training myself to do a No Miss Run of Double Dragon 2 for about 4 years now. I’ll explain what that means to anyone who isn’t familiar; it means I get through the entire game without losing a life. I can lose as much health as I want (generally speaking), so long as I never lose a life.

I’ve been playing Double Dragon 2 since it came out and I needed something to spice it up for me. I’ve recently done my first 3-in-a-row streak of No Miss runs, and I found this patch here today.

I tried playing through it… Look.

It does what it says it does, and beautifully, too. It unifies Punch and Kick to one button each, you never have to worry about them changing depending on which way you are facing, and your character will never turn around after knocking someone down with Kicks.

However; for someone who has played this game ad nauseum the way I have (that’s Latin for “until I’m sick of it”), my muscle memory managed to screw me over pretty badly while playing this.

If you’ve never been into The Revenge because the control scheme got on your nerves, you’ll probably adore this. If you’ve been seriously playing DD2 for a very long time, and your muscles are used to the original, if wonky, controls, you’re gonna have a bad time.

I am recommending it… just with that caveat.
