Hack of Donkey Kong 64

This patch lets you use DPad Left/Right to instantly tag to the previous/next Kong in the rotation.

DK - Diddy - Lanky - Tiny - Chunky

Upon creating a file, all Kongs are automatically unlocked.

The mystery menu options are unlocked without capturing banana fairies for your convenience.

This patch will work on real N64 hardware via flash/dev carts. It will likely work as a Wii U VC inject. Emulator is not recommended right now

If you’re running an older flash cart that requires the SRAM fixed version of the game (ie. you lose your save file after a few hours of gameplay), you can download the Tag Anywhere + SRAM Fix patch here:!aV5wnayJ!rD0lkRft8CnA9LouvfdXEdDD68YuULLGkgxvQQTJlCE you will need beat to apply it:

One way to fix a problem but not the best way

Reviewed By: pocket on 03 Aug 2020

So, DK64 is a game I struggle to finish time and time again, I always either abandon my play through or I come back to it months after hiatus. The constant need to switch Kongs to collect each different colored coin, banana, balloon, etc. it really becomes exceedingly tedious. This hack aims to address the issue by giving the player the ability to swap Kongs on the fly with the unused N64 D Pad.

So does it work? Yeah. Even on real hardware with an N64 everdrive. In fact, as soon as you gain control of Donkey Kong you can swap to the other five characters… and this is where my issues pop up… I wish I could recommend this with a “Yes but-” The patch throws off the missions where you have to rescue the other Kongs. Their cages are just open. It trivializes the swap barrels, and it doesn’t exactly make it so you can obtain everything in each level on your first visit since you still have abilities to learn from Funky and Cranky in later levels.

This hack does cut down on the tedium but I’m not sure it goes about it in the right way. In my opinion, enabling each Kong to pick up any collectible, no matter the color ( barring Golden Bananas ) would be the best approach, at least I would imagine that being the best way to do it… But, for now, this is the best way we have to expedite playthroughs of DK64, but for me personally, I’ll be sticking to the vanilla game for now.
