Recent Updates

  • Hacks
Added the following features: - All the shine sprite models have been tinted green, including the ones on the episode select menus and the monument one in Delfino Plaza. - The Shadow Mario wanted poster in Delfino Airstrip has been changed to a wanted poster of Shadow Luigi. - Various shine sprite images have been tinted green. Updated the list of things it still needs by adding these previously unmentioned problems: - The FLUDD nozzles don't always render correctly. - The Luigi model lacks many of the texture-altering features of the original Mario model, such as visibly getting dirty from the goop or closing his eyes when he goes to sleep. - The level entry portals are still "M"s instead of "L"s. - The goop originally at Delfino Airstrip is still in the shape of a Mario head with an "M" above it instead of a Luigi head with an "L" above it. I also added in the description that people should explain how they created the new assets they make for this mod to me so I can more easily alter them if necessary. And I changed two of the pictures to show off the newly green tinted shine sprite models and textures.

Phantasy Star Generation: 4 - A Relocalization

Hack of Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium

Description:

Phantasy Star Generation:4 is a comprehensive relocalization (and for most of the story text, a retranslation), incorporating fan-translated PS scripts, PS team interviews, and other PS resources.

As SEGA canceled “Phantasy Star Generation:4″ many years ago, this project aimed to create a definitive, series-ending Phantasy Star experience.

Goals:

  • Restore every mistranslated connection to the other PS games
  • Best express Japanese creators’ intent (story, dialog and themes)
  • Make the script more colloquial, fun, and emotional (from NPCs to main story)
  • Add PS lore gathered from PS team interviews and official SEGA resources
  • Add depth to character relationships
  • Explain character actions that had been given no in-game reasoning (see project site for details – spoilers)

Graphics/sound are unmodified from SEGA’s English release, besides adding in monsters present in Japanese that were censored from the English release. A few changes with items/weapons (nothing major).

Please visit the project website for more screenshots and “director” notes. (PSIV.GamesDoneLegit.com)

“Found in Fanslation” podcast recently begun - interviews w/ key contributors to this project and to PS English-speaking fandom.

_____________________________________________________________________________

There are three versions of the patch. Please see notes for recommendations:

1. “Generation 4 - “Working Designs”

  • Expands upon NPCs’ dialog.
  • Added comments from main character on the world of PSIV
  • A few modified/added lines of story dialog

If you’re a fan of Working Designs-style RPG writing (specifically Lunar and Lunar: EB on SEGA CD), you might best enjoy this. Or, if you’ve played PSIV before and would like an expanded look at the universe, try this.

2. Generation 4 - “Purist”

  • Removed most editorialization added to NPCs from WD script
  • Removed a few added dialog exchanges
  • Removed some dialog that fits the characters but isn’t in the Japanese script.

If you prefer a more straight-laced localization, this version removes most of the added color, leaving the naturalized English dialog, fixed PS references, more accurate story translation, and added PS background and story. This is closest to the literal, original Japanese script.

A number of variations also exist – please contact the author about making a patch with the character/tech/item names that you prefer, since all the EN localizations did things differently.

It makes the dialogues way more interesting

Reviewed By: Rafasilvakrav5 on 04 Jun 2020

I played the original game near till the end and enjoyed it thoroughly, but always thought most dialogue was pretty bland and uninteresting.

We have this amazing universe with incredibly advanced technology, magic, monsters and whole lot of intriguing lore, but have to keep reading those boring lines.

I doubt what makes people love the classic series is the dialog. Unless you are a little kid you can’t honestly say those dialogues are really good. They’re serviceable. Be it because the developers were not good at writing dialogue, didn’t have the time/budget, for hardware constraints or a combination of those.

This re-work of the script makes so that I (as an adult) can read the lines without getting bored.

To be quite frank, even the No-Joke script is not that interesting to read. But to each their own.

I got this patch because I wanted a translation that expanded on the very little that we got as well as making it more precise and interesting. I definitely got what I was looking for and I’m happy with it.

Thank you, GhaleonUnlimited.
