Description:

Rockman 5: Double Jumper is a hack that features a new skill for Rockman, the Double Jumper (press the jump button on mid-air to perform it, like Forte and Zero).

The hack also features:

  • new level designs
  • new boss move patterns
  • new weapons behavior

-weapon swapping using the SELECT button:

  • SELECT, normal order;
  • DOWN+SELECT, reverse order;
  • START+SELECT, default buster

-Special & Effect items (hidden in all Robot Masters’ stages)


-Special items: Rush Coil, Rush Jet, Super Arrow, & Beat


-Effect items:

  • Energy Balancer, weapon energy pickups fills the weapon with the least amount of energy;
  • Recovery Up, boosts life & weapon energy pickups;
  • Knockback Guard, as the name states; and
  • Energy Exchanger, expending an E-can to replenish a weapon’s energy by pressing SELECT over the selected weapon

-the Dash can or D-can, giving Rockman a speed boost

  • an auto-save feature (when restarting a new game, press A-button while holding B-button)
  • Exit, in the pause menu, exit a conquered Robot Master stage

RM 5: Double Jumper - In detail and by points

I’ve known this hack for a long time. The main idea in it is a double jump, like the character “Bass”.

The idea is interesting, but there are strengths and weaknesses in this hack. Let’s look at all this - in more detail, and why I make such an opinion about the hack.

I’ll start as always with the pros of the hack:

  • 1. Level Design. Here in this hack, it’s really interesting done. High-quality processing of all original levels
  • 2. To some extent, the enemies have also changed. Some added new AI, and on some - it is possible to interact. No damage will be done, which is surprising
  • 3. Secrets. They are hidden in a unique way at each location. Some simplify the game, and somewhere skillfully hidden E-tank or life
  • 4. Music. I do not know where it came from, whether it is remixes or its own music, BUT THE FACT of a complete change in the soundtracks (in terms of music) is heard well. Even, surprisingly, it fits the levels
  • 5. Bosses. Graphically not changed, but their AI is an interesting process. Every boss, EVERYONE is changed! And it’s more interesting to fight with them than with the originals.
  • 6. Introduction of Features and new enemies. Insignificant, but interesting
  • 7. Multiple game modes: “Normal Game” and “DASH MODE”. Unique in their own way, interesting in their own way

Now we are moving slowly to the cons.

  • 1. The most noticeable and obvious: Too easy. Why? Double jump simplifies the gameplay, so there is a “Hyper Speed” in the game (hack). With this, it turns out to fly the level without much challenge.
  • 2. Saving the Game (progress). On the one hand, it should not be in the cons, but if you look at another game (For example, Rockman CX), then the saving was divided into three slots. Here - by choosing any item of the “Game mode” - you start the game not from scratch, But from the LAST PROGRESS. This is stupid and strange. As for me - this is an ill-conceived detail - confusing.

In the neutral part, I left: THE MANUAL OF THE GAME. Because it is not embedded in the hack, but only here as a description. Although, if you make a game cartridge - manual in reprinted form - it will be an excellent addition.

To tell the truth, the hack has most of the advantages, but the ease of the hack amazed me (in a bad sense of the word) that I already wanted to send it to bad hacks. But I realized that it would be completely unfair, BECAUSE the very idea of a double jump is well implemented, the levels are good… It’s about me going.

To tell the truth, the hack lacks another update in the form of an additional “NO DASH” mode, and (or) a “HARD GAME” mode. Therefore, I recommend this hack, but I want to update it even more. Really - I liked this creation, but I lacked a small grain of complexity. And so - a good hack
