Decades after western audiences got their first taste of Goemon via Konami’s localization of the cult classic Legend of the Mystical Ninja, the SNES sequels are finally playable in English thanks to this epic translation team! Thankfully, the wait was worth it.

Thought “cursed” for a time due to the difficulties involved in this project, the care and polish on display here easily surpasses the official translation of Ganbare Goemon 1, with little details like numerous background graphics lovingly redrawn (the Goemon series is rife with these). The new sprites look slick and dialogue is loaded with character, lending the cast plenty of personality and preserving the quirky humor that the games are known for.

Goemon 2 is my personal favorite title in the series, and while it’s entertaining even untranslated, being able to actually understand all the jokes peppered throughout the adventure obviously adds to the enjoyment. This is an excellent game and an excellent translation, one which you owe it to yourself to experience.
