Final Fantasy II is a role playing game for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
The most widely used NES translation patch of Final Fantasy II is the NeoDemiforce patch, which while great for its time, is filled with jokes and translation errors, with even some completely made-up lines thrown in.
The aim of this project is to provide an English version of the NES Final Fantasy II with a much more accurate English script in addition to using official Square Enix names and terminology for the characters, items, etc.
The Demiforce script has been thrown out entirely, and replaced with a fresh new English script heavily influenced by the official GBA translation, but the content of the script remains identical to the original Famicom version, and certain lines that were changed between the Japanese Famicom and Japanese GBA versions were retranslated from scratch.
Please apply the patch to a clean Japanese Final Fantasy II ROM.
Staff Note: According to ChaosRush’s readme, he used Demiforce’s hack as base. So this is clearly an Addendum patch for Demiforce’s hack.

This is a very solid translation that seems to capture the mood of the game much better than others available. As for my previously mentioned typos, I have taken it upon myself to create a v1.8 of this patch, as Chaos Rush is no longer working on it and has passed it on to us, the community.
There is an issue that I encourage any ambitious romhackers to address, where the DTE for spell names is designed for some names to use 5 characters. The text box in combat only has room for 4 characters, 1 space, and 2 digits for the spell level. This causes some spells with levels above 9 to push the second digit out of the box, making Thunder 16 appear to be Thunder 1. Only once the DTE has been cleaned up and spells names squished can we upgrade this brilliant translation to v2.0
