Hack of Pokémon: FireRed Version

Update 1.7 fixes some bugs and adds some content.

This is the update to Fire Red Legends, however, this patch works with version 1.0 (squirrels) NOT 1.1. Pokemon encounters have been edited and custom trainer battles and certain dialogue for the Elite Four have been changed for their rematches.

This newest update (1.4) alternates Rival Team with Game, Adventures Manga or Origins Episodes.

As before, it makes all Pokemon from Generations 1 and 2 obtainable without trading. All Pokemon appearance ratios have been increased (no more 1% Chanseys), and most Safari Zone Pokemon are catchable in other locations. Fire Red and Leaf Green Pokemon are where they would usually be. Second Generation Legendaries are catchable as well. Aurora and Mystic Tickets work in game so you can catch Lugia and Ho-oh on Navel Island and go to Birth Island as well. Cerulean Cave MIGHT be accessible early… Be sure to check out the Day Care on Four Island also.

ROM / ISO Information:

  • No-Intro Name: Pokemon - Fire Red Version (USA)

I did a Grass monotype run of this hack, which was surprisingly smooth up until the Pokemon League rematch. That was a nightmare, but most of it was a result of outrageous RNG shenanigans that cost me dearly. I spent a lot of time grinding, and it helped that most of the hack was played on emulator speedup. This is a very simple hack and I played Fire Red dozens of times through other ROM hacks and the vanilla game itself. I can’t really play at its naturally slow pace anymore.

Back to the topic at hand, there’s not much to this hack. It’s good for what it is, the 251 Pokemon from Gen 1-2 are fit in very nicely, with generous encounter rates, especially for rare Pokemon like Chansey. That’s about it, I recommend the hack if you want something in the vein of Throwback, though more scaled back than that hack. Make a challenge out of this, Nuzlocke, whatever you want. The Grass monotype made this a more memorable experience that was maddening at the end.
