Mega Q*bert

GEN

Description:

Almost 6 years ago, a prototype of a game called “Mega Q*bert” was started, but was never finished due to a massive amount of problems with the game’s structure. It was later rewritten from scratch and it’s now done.

Mega Q*bert is a fan adaptation of the popular arcade title for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. The title has 2 modes - Mega mode with 80 new different levels to beat and an Arcade mode, which is based on NES Q*bert (which in turn is based on the original game). Both modes allow simultaneous cooperative play.

The game unfortunately hasn’t been tested on the actual hardware.

Everything you could want in a Q*Bert game!

This homebrew is very slick. It has a super fun 2P mode, all the classic levels, and even more newer, challenging levels. The new levels have different shapes besides only a pyramid. Also some new enemies, but still with a classic feel. I’ve been working on trying to get past level 3, however the maps are pretty tough to do solo. The green cube color changing guys are very annoying at that point. I still keep coming back for more because the control is great and the gameplay is pure, classic Q*Bert, which I love. Jaklub did an awesome job on this game.

FYI: You can get a V1.2 of the game at the forum link above. It has some fixes and is probably the final release.
