Mega Man X5 is the game you want to love, but can’t because of some glaring flaws (the biggest being Alia stopping you every five seconds to tell you something). The goal of this project is to fix the flaws and add some polish where needed.

A Much Smoother Experience

It’s funny how sometimes the changes that don’t seem really seem huge can have a big impact on the overall game, and this hack demonstrates this perfectly.

Having power-ups shared between characters is a huge breath of relief, as this means that you don’t have to chart out who gets what, and this also relieves players of situations where they are left with an underpowered X after Zero becomes unplayable due to an RNG-determined plot point.

The graphical touches, such as X and Zero’s fixed injured sprites, and the new save UI (which looks much neater than the original), are a nice addition as well.

Perhaps the biggest impact that this hack provides is the removal of Alia’s hints, something that greatly smooths out the overall pacing of the game, now that she doesn’t pop up to interrupt your game. That and the hints aren’t really lost, as the game’s level designs are good enough that most players can generally figure out what to do without her help.

I can definitely see the potential for more changes in the future, but overall, I’m very happy with what’s been done here, and I look forward to what DarkSamus has in store next. This is a solid 10/10.
