Excellent Hack, very much worth playing

Reviewed By: Kuhurdler on 14 Jun 2018

I completed the 1st Legend of Banjo quest last night, and have very much enjoyed this LoZ hack. The dungeons and overworld were all new, with some well thought out creativity in their design. I’d compare the difficulty level of the 1st quest to be similar to the original LoZ.

I haven’t played any Banjo games prior and am not familiar with the series, so the theme is almost entirely lost on me. There didn’t seem to be any outside knowledge that I needed in order to play this.

There were very few graphical bugs I noticed, and absolutely nothing that impacted the play-ability.

(no spoilers) In Q1, level 8 was extremely well laid out and challenging. It seemed like some very serious thought was given to that level. Level 9, on the other hand, seemed less thought out. L9 had some extremely odd looking enemies, which was fun, but the flow of room sequences was too easy, and I accidentally beat the final guy before seeing half of the level, or finding the red ring.

The only thing that I disliked was having to find ALL of the honey (heart) containers out in the overworld. None are awarded for defeating bosses in the dungeons. Obviously that was a design choice, and I respect that, but it made solving the dungeons less desirable for me, and added to the need to for more grinding for stuff in the overworld. That’s just my own preference.

I’ve only just started the 2nd quest, which apparently has no sword. It is incredibly challenging to grind for rupees, but I am enjoying the challenge. I did once “complete” the original LoZ once with no sword, at least as far as you can go since the sword is required to fight Gannon.

Overall - This hack is extremely well done, and I highly recommend it to anyone that loves LoZ. Thanks for Charade for making this.
