Hack of Final Fantasy II

This hack alters events of the game such that Golbez joins the party after Cecil and friends destroy the Giant of Babil. The story has been tweaked so that this development makes sense in context. Edge is demoted to a non-playable character in order to make room for Golbez.

Other changes include: a modified party lineup at various points throughout the game, many new equipment and tool items, the restoration of dummied commands and spells, overall refinement of the script, and more.

We are currently on Version 3.1, the eighth release of this hack. This release only addresses bugs from previous versions.

Thank you to everyone who tries the hack!

A nice twist - but lacks difficulty

In this hack, you keep Edward and Cid longer. Which is very welcome because they weren’t in the party too long. The cutscenes have been altered to make perfect sense. (Seriously: In original FFIV when Cid drops the Bomb to seal the underworld: why the heck does he jump overboard rather than just throwing down the damned bomb??) Therefore, there is also more equipment for both of them. Some character commands and summons which were dummied out for the US release (Recall, Pray, Goblin, Bomb…) have been restored - in a good way! The summons can be found in treasure chests, opposed of being dropped at an unreasonable low rate as in the original FFIV releases.

(Since I wasn’t a fan of Edge, I’m not sad that he became a NPC)

The hack does pretty much everything it promises to do. However, there is one thing which comes too short - it’s the difficulty. Depending on which releas of FFIV you played, you will either feel a little underchallenged (if you just played FFII US) or downright bored (any other release except for easytype). Only 1 or 2 bossfights in the end are a little challenging (Zeromus is not one of those). But since the main feature is Golbez joining, this hack probably aims to be suitable for a large audience, as many people dreamed about having Golbez in the team.

At the end of the day, I recommend this hack to everybody who want to control Golbez AND replay the story once again (a little bit altered, though). If you are looking for challenge, then this hack is definitely not interesting for you.
