Hack of Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts

Description:

This hack restores the crosses that appeared in the background and on the zombie’s coffin from the Japanese version back to the American version and it also changes the name of the final boss from Sardius back to Samael as well.

It also removes most of the slowdowns, making the game much more enjoyable to play.

It also makes it where you can access the hidden menu with the first controller by holding L and pressing Start.

It also restores the clam enemy’s unused frames of animation back to it and the unused heart sprite for the ending as well.

This hack also works with Lufia’s Super Arthur hack as well.

The 0xED hex editor was used to change the name of the final boss.

This might work for other flash carts as well.

Apparently Super Ghouls’N Ghosts looks for a specific security chip. If it doesn’t find it, it garbles the graphics. The game needs to find that chip either in the cartridge itself, or in your SNES to work. Obviously, by running the game in a flash cart, I didn’t have on-cartridge chip. I do have a security chip in my SNES, of course. However, it is a different revision of the security chip. Specifically, an earlier one. My SNES is a launch model SHVC-CPU-01.

Whatever other changes this patch makes to the ROM, it also appears to remove that security check. Probably one of the things done to improve performance? No idea.
