Definitive way to play Sonic 3D Blast

Reviewed By: DurradonXylles on 11 Jan 2018

I actually first played the beta when it was released as part of the hack showcase for the 2017 Sonic Hacking Contest. I was quite impressed by how much better this version of the game was compared to the original, and it has only gotten better with its version 1.0 release over the holidays.

Sonic controls far better, the game is more lenient with how many hits you can take, Flickies are not nearly as much of a pain to collect or keep, there’s a nice and simple level select that shows what you’ve completed in each level, and you can save your progress in the form of a fairly short password. Oh, and you can go Super Sonic to boot.

This hack offers it all and then some, and you can still play the original version of the game from the main menu of you want to compare it to the DX version or if you prefer to do so. This hack definitely deserves the “Director’s Cut” monicker based off of its own merits… But having the game’s actual creator being the hack’s author doesn’t hurt it, either. Highly recommended.
