Seizure Warning!

A lot of heart and soul went into making this hack, and it’s obvious by all of the handmade graphics. A lot of hacks borrow graphics from other games - even the legendary Rockman: No Constancy - and while this does that, it also has a ton of graphics that were made from scratch with love. In fact, this is a big part of what drew me to Anandastoon’s work in the first place, and he ranks among my favorite hackers out there. You’ll see a beautiful glowing city at night, cool patterns that remind me of the ’70s, dark forests with hexagonal patterns, and even an city under shimmering water. There are a lot of flashing graphics, so players prone to seizures, please take heed. Every single aspect of this game has at least been touched, too; enemies and bosses have new behaviors, music has been moved around, and weapons have new graphics and palettes. The weapon palettes are gorgeous, by the bye; my favorite ones are the Items. The visual journey alone is worth powering through this hack.

And powering is what you’ll have to do; this can be absolutely brutal at times. Enemies are often placed in ways that make it almost impossible to survive, much less evade, for one thing. I think my biggest gripe with the level design would be the multitude of death beams from Quick Man’s stage; they’re in several stages, and almost every single screen requires pixel-perfect precision. This is hardly exclusive to this hack, but make sure that you beat Flash Man first. One of these is even in a maze; my other “favorite” thing. States are highly recommended! The boss weaknesses could use a little tweaking, too, since there isn’t any great way to tackle them without using your arm cannon on more than one of them. Despite the difficulty, though, I do really enjoy this hack.
