The Second Reality Reloaded

Hack of Super Mario World

Description:

Background information: So, what’s this all about? “The Second Reality Project Reloaded” is not another new entry in the TSRP-series, it’s a remake of the first part. The hack finally features a new overworld (people requested this for years) and of course, custom graphics and custom music. Besides that, not much have changed, most of the time the level design is the same as before. So, keep in mind that the original hack came out back in 2002, and back in the days you don’t had the possibility to insert custom sprites, dozens of ASM-hacks and so on. So please don’t expect anything groundbreaking here, it’s still the same thing as it was before: a hack which is about level design and nothing else. But with that said, chances are if you enjoyed the original hack, you will love the remake for sure!

Storyline: Bowser is back again, more powerful than times ago: He found a power source which let him rebuilt his Airship Fleet. Soon he plans on attacking the Mushroom Kingdom one time more! It’s up to Mario to stop him!

Note: This hack will not work right on ZSNES 1.4*. Just use an older or newer version instead!

Feels and Looks Different than the Original

Reviewed By: pianohombre on 11 Apr 2017

This hack borrows from Super Mario Bros. 3 and Yoshi’s Island. It’s really a lot different than the original SMW, not just a hack that redesigns the levels and extends gameplay. The world map you travel across is completely redesigned and looks more artsy than the original. There is also new audio. It’s challenging, so made for people who’ve played SMW at least fully through 1 or 2x. You will probably need save states to get through some worlds.

I enjoyed the added challenge and was very excited to play something that didn’t just re-arrange the enemies and change level design. It’s fun you will actually enjoy getting through the levels, whereas some hacks are so brutal you will be frustrated after stage 5 and just abandon the game for months.

My biggest gripe with the game is the music. The author mentions he spent years and many re-designs giving us this great visual treasure, but some levels and audio was so boring I would have preferred the original. It’s really a shame the author couldn’t give us the great addition in both departments, but I can’t really blame him/her for that. A few levels I did actually enjoy the audio better than the original but overall the audio was maybe 5 or 6/10 while visuals/graphics were 9 or 10/10.

I definitely recommend checking it out. You will love to see the new enemy designs, boxes, backgrounds, and play with slightly added difficulty.
