Return of Double Dragon - Kencho hacks

Hack of Return of Double Dragon

Description:

Several hacks by Kencho:

  • The Dragon Power Meter now increases 33% faster.
  • Billy and Jimmy’s basic attacks (just pressing punch or kick) are now two frames faster for better responsiveness.
  • Blocking is no longer timed. It is done just by holding the blocking button, in the fashion of other games like Mortal Kombat or Soul Calibur.
  • If the defense button is held when another move is finished, will start blocking immediately. The blocking condition is not the button press, but the button hold.
  • Blocking while holding a weapon will now drop it and enter the “defensive” mode.
  • The R button is now used for blocking, instead of increasing the Dragon Power Meter.

Minor Tweaks That Make a Nice Difference

Reviewed By: FreightMan71 on 03 Feb 2017

I agree with the reviewers before me: the added speed, better blocking abilities, and use of the superior (J) ROM all come together to make a pretty good game even better.

I bought the US Super Double Dragon way back in the day and have always enjoyed it despite the repetitive enemies/attacks (yes, I know, ALL ‘Dragon’ games had this, but this SNES version seemed to have it more pronounced), and floaty feel of the gameplay.

I then discovered the better Japanese ‘Return’ version, and now, this fine tweak of the controls for that same Japanese version.

Until someone makes a full blown hack (hopefully with THIS control mod added in), Kencho’s Return of Double Dragon is now the definitive SNES/S-Famicom version to play.

Recommended.
