Game Review - by Kitsune Sniper

Yet another one of those “Let’s mix all those bigass robot anime series into one universe, get them to fight against one another, and we’ll write the story as we go along!” game. OK, maybe not quite, but this is yet another iteration of Super Robot Wars, in which you command an army of bigass robots fighting against bigass robots.

I don’t like these games much, but the part where these games shine is the story. Maybe my comment above was snarky, but they do put a lot of thought into why Ryouma from Mazinger Z is suddenly in love with Rei Ayanami from Evangelion.

I swear, this sounds like a crappy fanfiction from hell…

Note: Ryouma is the Hero of GETTER ROBO and Rei Ayanami isn’t actually IN this game, not to mention Cross series Crushes is the most they ever get into

English Aeon Genesis Fully Playable 0.95b 859readme.txt 26 Dec 2008

Description

The game should be fully playable in English, front to back, but the Character and Robot databases, as well as the Karaoke mode, remain in Japanese. As such, it is marked as “Incomplete” for RHDN’s purposes. Further, this is very much a *beta* patch, so be sure to familiarize yourself with the known issues in the readme.

Buggy but playable
Reviewed By: KaioShin on 02 Aug 2009

As the description and the readme state, this patch is very much incomplete. Apart from the misc text that’s not yet translated (really unimportant stuff, ignore it), the biggest problem is that there are a bunch of glitches in the menus, like disappearing names. So if you can’t find a mech you want to tune up anymore in the list, just go back and forth one page and it might just show up ;)

These issues are a tad annoying, but the game really is perfectly playable from start to finish. The English speaking SRW community waited a long time for this translation, so go play it right now. We should be thankful to Gideon for releasing the translation in this state so we have something to play until the full patch is released in a year or two. ;)
