Hack of Mega Man

Description:

The purpose of this hack was to make the original Mega Man much easier for gamers that find games that aren’t too incredibly tough more enjoyable.

Key changes:

  • The vast majority of spikes and bottomless pits are eliminated. There are still some left in to provide at least some challenge.
  • Each Robot Master receives a considerable vast more amount of damage from their weaknesses than they did in the original game.
  • Each Robot Master receives a good bit more damage from the Mega Buster than in the original game.
  • Each Robot Master’s weapon does a considerable less amount of damage to the player.
  • Many levels feature less enemies and more powerups.
  • All special weapons only use 1 unit of energy.

This hack was created with the use of the Rock and Roll Level Editor.

Great for practice or casual play

I’ll start by saying this is an excellently crafted hack. If you are a beginner to classic Mega Man or a looking for a casual experience, I fully recommend using this hack.

My only criticism is that some spots seem a little too easy. Generally the difficulty curb is active enough to keep it fun and it can feel like an official game setting, however some screens, such as the platforming section in the opening of Guts man’s stage, remind you that it is a hack when you are experienced in the original. The platforms added are a bit on the nose for ease.

Otherwise, as I said before, an excellent hack. Definitely give it a try.
