Game Description:

This game is gorgeous, with a really distinctive isometric graphical style to everything. I can’t get out of the first town though, so that’s really all I can tell you.

ROM / ISO Information:

  • The patch was most likely developed with the common circulating ROM with CRC F70F2A95.
  • Just prior to the patch release, KingMike dumped his own cartridge and got a ROM with CRC 74D89D96. He determined the pre-existing "good" Japanese ROM was a 4 byte hack to disable a copier check on the title screen.

Good Translation for an OK RPG

Reviewed By: Klaviaturist on 27 Sep 2012

I will start by saying that it’s good to see this games translation finished after all this time. And from what I have played (about 9 to 10 hours worth) it looked certainly worth the wait, even if the gameplay isn’t exactly what I had hoped for.

Energy Breaker is an isometric tactical RPG with a lot of classic RPG elements. Such as exploring towns and dungeons, and talking to NPCs. The tactical part comes in its battle system. I guess think FF Tactics in a way. It’s a nice looking game but admittedly, after the amount of time I have put into the game, I am finding the battles a bit tedious. But one interesting thing about dealing with NPCs in this game is you can talk to people in certain tones or ways. It is a simple and somewhat unused system (only in certain portions of the game have I found it to be useful thus far).

The translation of the game is really nice though. You can tell there was a ton of time put into this. Everyone involved should be pretty proud of this work.

Aside from battles, in towns you can pretty much explore everything and almost every item and NPC has a piece of dialog. So exploring is a must just to see how much time was put into the games translation.

One interesting thing to note about the game. Apparently it takes place in the same world of the Lufia series. And I have heard that Lufia and Roman make an appearance at the end of the game. It’s enough to keep me playing just to see how that all ties in.

Overall, great job with the translation for what I consider an OK RPG. I had no issues with the patch and haven’t come across any bugs. Looking forward to checking out the rest of the game.
