==================================================================================================== Disclaimer ========== I don’t own Phantasy Star or anything in it. I did, however, make this hack. I’m vivify93, known more commonly in some circles as 51793Moeman, JB, or rotschleim. Send all bug reports to vivify93 at the ROMhacking.net forum. You can post in my topic or send me a private message. Since there are a couple of different ROMs out there, I’ll tell you that you need to apply this patch to the UE (US and European; yes, they’re one entity) ROM. Make sure to keep a backup of your original; as far as I know, I didn’t change anything that would break the game, but you might not like some of the changes I made. So after finishing Phantasy Star II and its text adventures, I decided I wanted to try Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom, and had found quite a decent interface—no all caps like the other games in the series was a big plus especially! Unfortunately, it suffered from localizers who obviously didn’t do their homework on the previous two games, a nine-letter limit for equipment and items, and some pretty weird dialogue display choices. If you plan on mixing patches, I recommend you apply this patch to your ROM before any others. ==================================================================================================== ==================================================================================================== Changelog ========= v0.1 - Fixed some self-induced bugs. - Put in an “ll” icon so the word wouldn't be spelled “Sel” in shops. (SEL > Sell) - Switched around the numbers and the word “damage” in the display. (Damage # > # damage) - Changed the town of Yaata’s name to Yarta. - Altered some stuff to fit in line with series consistency. The one I can share without giving out spoilers is the spell Tsu has been changed to Wat. - A few typos have been fixed, and a grand total of three exclamation marks have been thrown in at various places. - MIEU "Hello everyone. The author of this patch wanted me to let you know that the dialogue display has been changed from this…" Mieu: …To this! The author’s intention is to make it look cleaner and more like a script. Thank you and goodbye! - Some of the menu selections have been changed. (Item > Items Techniq > Techs Switch > Order) - Tried my best to expand equipment and item names, but with that stupid nine-letter limit, I could only do so much; sorry! In particular, fibliras are now tunics. - Changed the font to the one used in Phantasy Star: The end of the millenium’s menus. ==================================================================================================== ==================================================================================================== Left to Do ========== I need help with these remaining issues, but I don’t find them pressing enough to seek solutions for them myself. The patch is pretty much finished aside from this, though, so please don’t let this meager to-do list scare you off from the patch! 1. Change the meseta display in the stats menu from MES to MST. This can’t be done for now because I can only find the meseta display for shop menus. Unfortunately no, they’re NOT shared… ==================================================================================================== ==================================================================================================== Credits ======= - FreshFeeling for the table files.
