==================================================================================================== Disclaimer ========== I don’t own Phantasy Star or anything in it. I did, however, make this hack. I’m vivify93, known more commonly in some circles as 51793Moeman, JB, or rotschleim. Send all bug reports to vivify93 at the ROMhacking.net forum. You can post in my topic or send me a private message. Since there are a couple of different ROMs out there, I’ll tell you that you need to apply this patch to the UE (US and European; yes, they’re one entity) ROM. Make sure to keep a backup of your original; as far as I know, I didn’t change anything that would break the game, but you might not like some of the changes I made. Back when I was trying to get into the acclaimed Phantasy Star series, I noticed that the second and fourth games were plagued with horrible all caps everywhere for no reason. I decided to set out and remedy this. On top of everything, Phantasy Star: The end of the millenuim had dashes rather than spaces in its equipment. What the heck, man. No. I have not altered any dialogue. If you plan on mixing patches, I recommend you apply this patch to your ROM before any others, and then you should correct any all caps strings of text you find with the table files and a hex editor. ==================================================================================================== ==================================================================================================== Changelog ========= V0.2a - Changed two enemy attack names. Whoops. v0.1 - Removed a lot of colons where they just seemed superfluous. - Put almost everything in proper case, and also modified the names of a few items. I know that in particular there is no more “TORNDODGGR”; it’s now the GaleDagger. Little things like that have been changed, so be on the lookout. ==================================================================================================== ==================================================================================================== Left to Do ========== I need help with these remaining issues, but I don’t find them pressing enough to seek solutions for them myself. The patch is pretty much finished aside from this, though, so please don’t let this meager to-do list scare you off from the patch! 1. Expanding item names that don’t currently take advantage of the full ten-letter limit is top priority. 2. Spell and item names haven’t been properly changed in the dialogue, and this needs to be done. 3. Making PS: Teotm more consistent with the rest of the series would be nice, like changing “Parma” and “Alshline” to Palma and Alsuline. 4. Due to my editing the dashes in inventory names to spaces, items display improperly when you pick them up off enemies after a battle. This doesn’t affect very many items however. 5. Getting rid of the colons for the little HP and MP displays would be nice. 6. I’d like to make the big 8x8 numbers bold and consistent with the rest of the font. ==================================================================================================== Credits ======= - FreshFeeling for the table files. Their website can be found here: http://www.wrftpb.com/psiv/index.html - Kuwabara for creating their amazing Fix CheckSum utility, which can be found here: http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/342/ - Sega for making the game. …and all you Phantasy Star fans out there! ==================================================================================================== ==================================================================================================== Discredits ========== WHOEVER STARTED THE ALL CAPS TREND IN 1990s VIDEO GAMES. SERIOUSLY, THAT SHIT IS ANNOYING AND NOW THOSE OF US WHO DON’T WANT TO FEEL LIKE WE’RE BEING SCREAMED AT WHEN WE PICK UP TREASURE HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT NOW. It’s not that I’m not grateful and they did their best, but seriously. Why caps, why. Also, whoever decided dashes were to be used instead of spaces? It wasn’t and isn’t cute. ====================================================================================================
