Translations: Dynamic-Designs Releases Mystic Ark!
« on: September 12, 2009, 05:37:57 am »

Update By: Draken

Although there have been many attempts over the years, one group has finally done it!  Mystic Ark has just been released by the new group, Dynamic-Designs!  Having worked on the project in near-total secrecy over the past year, D-D has revealed to the public its true "Secret Project."  Go on over and check it out.

Note: The game seems to have some aversion to SNES9x1.51, but older versions should display everything just fine.

I am having a problem getting this to work. Everything I try, ZSNES comes up with "bad rom". The untranslated rom I have  loads but as soon as I patch it, it says its bad. I have tried interleaved, deinterleaved, headered and unheadered and it always does the same thing. Anyone know whats going on?

Figured it out. Make sure the rom is unheadered (can use SNESTool to remove the header) and name the ips patch the same as the rom name.. for example:

Mystic Ark.smc
Mystic Ark.ips

Then run the rom in ZSNES and it should automatically apply the patch. I was manually patching it using IPSWin and for some reason, it caused that problem. Never had that happen before. Hope this works for everyone else. =)

Yes, for anyone who needs help, download NSRT (http://www.romhacking.net/utils/400/). If your rom has a header. Remove it. If your rom is interleaved, deinterleave it. You need a headerless deinterleaved rom (I.E. just like god/nintendo intended it). Patch and go.

Yes, it needs to be a headerless, de-interleaved ROM with CRC FEB80589.

Instead of taking the easier solution of using NSRT or re-downloading, I COPIED MY FLOPPY... aka my cart.  :D

Depending on your copier you might still need NSRT. :P

Some minor short lagging issue found on ZSNES 1.51, just to clarify this, did someone experienced a short lag of some sort?

Hmm... I tested the entire thing with zsnes1.51... three times!  I didn't experience any slowdowns whatsoever... Now, Chaos Seed... That game experiences some major slowdowns at times.  Haha!!  *ahem*  Are you using an older computer?

I think that another patch that addresses issues with Snes9x and copiers will be made available soon, so maybe it will remedy this problem you are having.

Congratulations to everybody involved! Especially Draken, who continued to stick with it after all this time. :) I have to admit I wasn't particularly interested in Mystic Ark, but after reading the game's description on the project page I'm really excited to play it! It seems like a game that's ahead of its time in a lot of ways.

I'm using a Intel Pentium IV CPU, 512 MB of RAM, Direct X 9.0c installed, a 64 MB video card and that's about it....

P.S.
I'm so silly... the heck why it was short lagging because I found out that AVG was scanning my computer... So no lags or whatsoever were found.

 :banghead:

P.S.S.
I like and appreciated the translation, as well as the game itself, may your legacy live forever!

So its been a satisfying experience to play this on PSP thus far?
Mind sharing specifics about how the game is running, what
emulator you're using and so on?
Thank you.

You should play it like it was intended to be played. On your PC  :P

Nah, I'd probably use my PSP more, but it seems to be going through this random shutdown issue.

Not sure how big a deal it is, if they're going to make a patch that works on more accurate emulators/console (it appears the VWF only works in ZSNES), but anyways...

Typo when looking at the window in the shack at the start of the pirate cat world:
"a spyglass is lying on the window sill." Should be capitalized.

That's actually something that I only found yesterday!  I never even knew that you could search the window!  I already submitted a beta report on it (and some other things that were missed by everyone while testing)
