I'm having trouble getting the patching program to work. :'(  It closes immediately after I open it.  On a related note, I haven't had much luck with the general ups patcher either.  Is this because my system's too old?

You know, we didn't create the entries or picked the screenshots, we just took what users submitted. Complain to your fanbase and not to us in that case ;) The reason it took so long to appear was also that the text of most submissions (there were half a dozen or so) sucked hard. If people are too lazy to write up a decent news post then we are too lazy to do better :P

Oh....  next time I'll submit it'll be longer....

Malias: I think byuu said the patcher won't work for Windows 98 or less, that's probably the problem I assume.

Foiled again by my outdated OS.::)  I guess I'll just apply the patch on someone else's computer.

Great job Tomato!  I played about an hour so far.... really good job on the translation...

My initial thoughts are that this game seems to be a massive improvement on the original.

How's the gameplay compared to EarthBound? I loved the humor in that game but the awkward menu scheme and limited inventory drove me nuts.

The menu scheme is alot simpler... I guess. I never had problems with EB's but I HAVE been playing Dragon Quest games for a while before I played EB...

As for limited space... At least your key items are stored separately, so only your equippable items and your healing/attack items use up space on your characters' inventories.

I think Tomato needs a break... Hacking the title screen could break the whole game seeing the history of this hack! XD

Oh, I'm by Chapter 4. Taking my sweet time... checking out everything, talking to everyone... even taking time to greet stray dogs.

Too bad you don't find free hamburgers from trash cans anymore. :(

I kind of wonder if the translation won't draw Nintendo's ire now because of the handbook being sold for profit.

Well, if it does, it might just make them realize that Earthbound (or Mother) is wanted now in the United States... and hopefully they think about Europe too (to appease those awesome European EB fans).

Apparently only the print version costs money, the online version will be free. Reid did a ton of legal legwork with Nintendo contacts and licensing managers to see if it would cause any trouble. I'm not really involved much so I don't know, but it sounds like he got an unofficial "it shouldn't cause any problems" from the licensing people. He's also been hard at work getting other stuff officially licensed through them though.

I am pleasantly surprised at how fun this game is.  I didn't really like the original because it didn't have much of a story... but this one has a nice story plus the humor that made the original great.

I think the original did have a story... It was just told in a more subtle way... in a way that graphics weren't a big part of the story. :/

But yeah, Mother 3 does seem much better than 2, doesn't it?

Finally finished the game a couple days ago. Up until Chapter 4 I wasn't quite sure if it would live up to Earthbound, but all my doubts vanished the more I progressed. Towards the end of alot of RPG's I tend to get burnt out and rush through the final stage just to get to the end. With Mother 3, I honestly wished it would just continue on forever. Feels good to finally have gone through the 3rd story (or at least some parts of story) Itoi wanted to tell after all this time.

All the little dialogue that you really have to go out of your way to read was one of my favorite things about it.

Wonder how many people noticed the woman that rarely seems to appears in a certain hot spring, or managed to remember to go back and read all the different newspaper headlines to name a couple instances.

Was the Mr. Saturn text difficult to get right? They speak in such a weird jumbled way. I always wondered if it was hard to properly convey what they say into English.

I love how he left the store text from Earthbound.
