Translator needed for Survival Kids 2
« on: June 01, 2008, 03:12:45 am »
Hello,
As the topic title says, I'm in need of a translator.
I have dumped the script, which you can see here (I don't know if this is all the text in the game, but it should be most of it.)
The script is about 150KB, which I think is pretty small for a
game script, and there's no kanji so it should be translated pretty quickly, but
I can't find anyone to help.

there's no kanji so it should be translated pretty quickly
This is the opposite of how it works - kanji provide meaning, so pure kana can be much harder to decipher.

Edit: Most of the item names. Note that - should be replaced by ー in your script dumper.

Hrm... I was pretty sure someone else was already working on this, but I don't see anything in the database so maybe my memory is just playing tricks on me. Anyways, here's the two menus. Menu 2 has a couple things that still need translation in it though.

Edit- This is only about 1/3rd of the way done, if that, but it's painfully repetitive so I'm taking a break from it for now.

Oh wow, thanks for all you help so far, people. :)

My notes aren't terribly organized on this project, but I'd be happy to supply you with what information I do have, as well as the translated introduction, if you'd like.

That'd be great. I'd like to see what you have.

EDIT: I found some text I didn't dump yet that needs translating

Depending on the context, you might be able to translate this one as "Confirm" (i.e. "go with this, just like it is").

I'd recommend "ignore" for sonomama.

If you leave something "sonomama", it means that you are not disturbing it. You're just leaving it there... Which is pretty much ignoring it... Confirm sounds more like you're affirming or acknowledging it...

Well, DarthNemesis obviously left it in parentheses because it needs context. You may be confirming something, you may be ignoring something.

That's right. *slaps forehead* "Leave it" might also work.

I think the context is pretty clear in this case... From the look of it, this is a list of ways in which you can interact with items that you find on the Survival Kids island...

I think Ryusui was assuming that sonomama could possibly appear on a menu screen with a list of options that you could change, but considering the fact that it's in a list of item interactions, that's not going to be the case.

Leave it seems like a good alternative, but on the other hand it may also not fit any situation... For example, what if somebody thinks that they are going to "leave" a certain item on the ground? What about situations where it should be "leave them"? If it/them is dropped and it's just "leave", then it might be confused with leaving the game, or something, not just the "drop" option.

そのまま appears in the list of choices when you go to pickup an item, so I think 'Leave' would be best for that (The English version SK1 used Leave, too).

Also, I was wondering if someone(DarthNemesis or Iriliane?) intend to translate the rest of the item names and descriptions? :)
There's only about 10 or so items needing translation so it shouldn't take long.

I'm unlikely to translate the rest of the descriptions in the near future so anyone who feels like doing so need not fear unnecessary duplication of work.

Also, I notice that DarkNemesis' semi-translated items list was taken down from sendspace. I've translated a couple more items and posted it here for anyone who'd like to translate the rest:

Try this on for size.

There may be some terms that aren’t correct because they need context, but the item descriptions made most of them much more obvious as to what they were supposed to be.

Yay, thanks BRPXQZME!

I'm hoping to release a partial patch fairly soon, that will just have all the translated items, descriptions and menus.
Although, no one had translated the map descriptions yet. >_> *hinthint*

Also, a some more text I missed.

I found this topic last year, decided to wait a while and watch the progress... but great idea of translation Survival Kids 2 seems to be dead :(
So, I decided to register on romhacking and 'dig it back'.
Here it is.
Does anyone still trying to translate this game or idea is abandoned?
Thanks in advance for replay (some time ago I started topic on GBAtemp - http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=98105 , but no one knows about the progress of translation there :/ ).
