All I get is either a blue screen or a dark screen.

Can you get other Vs games to work?

Does your ROM work on other emulators?

I can get Vs. Super Mario Bros., Vs. Excitebike, Vs. Duck Hunt, and Vs. Hogan's Alley working on nestopia.

This issue dates back a long ways, I think -- I know I've read about it before. Oddly enough, Nestopia release notes from 2006 list it as fixed:

Fixes:
- Mapper 99, PRG-ROM bank switching. Fixes "VS Gumshoe".

This page at Nesdev indicates that it's one of two Vs. System games with an oddly-sized ROM:

Also: Mac or PC version of Nestopia (i.e. OS X or Windows)? There are a ton of fixes that never made it into the Mac version AFAIK, because the guy who ported it basically stopped doing anything to update it (but still wants you to register and pay him to get access to the functionality he's put behind a paywall...).

There are also some standing issues with Nestopia and other games that hadn't been fixed last I checked, e.g. the saving bug in some Koei games where the savegame functionality doesn't actually work and you have to use savestates instead. IIRC that's common to both the OS X and Windows ports.
