Chrono Cross Character Editor
« on: August 22, 2020, 03:46:27 am »
Within the Chrono Cross enemy editor is a file called cccharactereditor. Does anyone know how I can get that to work?

Despite this being read over 800 times, it seems like everyone is just ignoring me. Might as well leave this open until I at least get a response on the matter.

Maybe you could provide some more details, like a link to where this editor can be downloaded.  Or what happens when you try to run it.

If I had to take a wild guess, it's probably a command-line tool that you have to run from the Windows command prompt.

I downloaded it from here https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=10069.0 which even has a folder labelled cccharactereditor. I thought that if it worked, then I could edit the characters, but I don't even know how to do that.

On that note, I am not even sure how to properly use the enemy editor. I put the paths in the text files, but it isn't working.

It is very difficult to offer suggestions if all you say is "it isn't working". What exactly are you doing? Are you getting some kind of error message?

I am getting no error message. I was trying to edit a few things to see if it worked. I edited a beach bum to drop 9k gold and made it drop the Mastermune, which I then saved it. It also mentions the ppf.bat, which I tried using with no success.

Details, sir. What happens? Do you get an error message? Did you try running it from the command line, as I suggested?

That's literally what I did. I edited the beach bum, I hit the save button and I hit the ppf.bat and that's it. There was no error message, nothing was edited when I tried going back to the game and I have no idea why you are even mentioning a command line.

It doesn't edit the game directly. It generates a patch file which you apply to your game.

Then how do I get it to save to my game proper?

"PPF" is a patch format. ppf.bat is supposed to generate a .ppf file that you can apply to your iso with PPF-O-Matic or a similar tool.

You see, these are useful things to know.

That's literally what I did. I edited the beach bum, I hit the save button and I hit the ppf.bat and that's it. There was no error message, nothing was edited when I tried going back to the game and I have no idea why you are even mentioning a command line.
If ppf.bat is producing an error message when it is run, then you might not be able to see it unless you run ppf.bat from the command line.

Did you edit list1.txt or list2.txt to match your paths, as documented in the readme?

I will admit the readme is not very well-written, but it looks like the third line needs to be changed to the path of the .ppf file you want to create.

I did set a path for it, but it did not generate a file there.

Perhaps you should just post the contents of your list1.txt and list2.txt file here.

Well, there's one problem. The second line is evidently supposed to refer to a .bin file, not a .cue file.
