Hey guys, I've recently decided to take a little bit of a break from my Slayers Royal 2 translation project to start working on translating another Sega Saturn title, Galaxy Fraulein Yuna Remix.  So far the translation I'm working on is coming together well, with about the first half-hour of content translated already.  With that being said, I've run into a little bit of a snag regarding one line of dialogue specifically.  To give some context, there are two characters involved in the conversation, Yuna, the game's mecha magical girl main protagonist and Elner, her floating robot companion that accompanies Yuna throughout the game.  Yuna recently won a contest and as a bonus prize she won a star cruiser that was delivered to the local airport.  In order for the airport authorities to hand over the cruiser though, Yuna has to present them with her license which she somehow misplaced.  Due to this, Yuna and Elner backtrack to Yuna's house and go through her room in order to try and find the license.  At one point, Yuna is looking through her desk and notices a test she got back from school, at which point she remarks to Elner,

Yuna: "Heh-heh-heh, the other day, I got an 85 percent on an English test.  What do you think, pretty amazing, right Elner?"

In the context of the game Yuna isn't exactly the brightest individual and as a result Elner makes the following skeptical remark in response,

Elner:"85点?
ユナにとっては 夢のような得点ですね
雪でも 降らなければ いいですが"

Now for the first two lines of this, I think I get the general idea.  From what I understand, Elner is basically saying, "85 percent?  You could only dream of getting a score like that Yuna."  For that last line though, I'm not really sure I quite understand what Elner is trying to say.  Elner appears to be making a sarcastic remark regarding snowfall (the scene in question takes place during the summer, where there's literally zero chance of there being any snow).  This leads me to believe that this is supposed to be some sort of Japanese expression, possibly similar in meaning to English expressions like "when pigs fly," though I'm not entirely certain that that's the case here. If anyone could possibly help explain what Elner means by that expression in this context I would greatly appreciate it.

You guessed it right, in Japanese you expect some unusual precipitation (typically: 雨 rain, 雪 snow, 赤い雪 red snow, or 槍 spear) when something unusual happens, especially an out-of-character good deed.

Hey guys, it's been a while, but I've made substantial progress on my Galaxy Fraulein Yuna English translation script.  Currently, I've translated the first hour and a half of gameplay into English for all three versions of the game (PC Engine, Sega Saturn and PSP).  Aside from that, I've also translated the PC Engine version of the manual into English.  With that being said, I could use a little help with this one cutscene that appears about 1/5th of the way into the game.  I'll put a link to a video of it with the music muted down below, along with my WIP English translation and Japanese transcript (be sure to check CC).

To give a little context, Yuna, the main protagonist wins the Gran Prix in the Galaxy Fraulein Contest, and becomes a famous idol in the process.  Later that night, a small robot by the name of Elner approaches Yuna and tells her that she's destined to be the "Savior of Light" and protect the universe from a darkness that seeks to consume all of space.  These dark forces have kidnapped the other girls that participated in the Galaxy Fraulein Contest, turning them into the evil "Thirteen Frauleins of Darkness" and sent them off in power armor to kill Yuna.  In order to deal with this threat, Yuna is given power armor of her own, called the "Light Suit" and has to make her way into space.  Luckily for Yuna, she won a star cruiser as a bonus prize in the Galaxy Fraulein Contest.  Unfortunately, since Yuna is kind of a klutz, she misplaced her license and has to spend the first hour of the game going through one misadventure after another around town just to find it.  After she finally finds her license she misplaced, she heads to the Airport along with Elner only to get interrupted by a foreign English speaker which Yuna has no idea how to communicate with.  At that moment, a stranger by the name of Lia interrupts and helps the foreigner, since she speaks fluent English.  Lia encourages Yuna to learn multiple languages and then they part ways.  Little does Yuna know that Lia is actually the leader of the "Thirteen Frauleins of Darkness" (Nope, that's not a spoiler, they just come out and say that right in the bio in the game's manual).  Yuna finally makes her way to her cruiser and after a brief battle with one of the Thirteen Frauleins of Darkness "Mari Teshigawara of Flowers", she starts up her ship, at which point this cutscene plays.

I understand what the characters are saying for the most part, but there are three lines specifically I'm having a little trouble with:

0:14 - I believe the first part of what Yuna says is "じゃ、発進"  followed by "これならいいでしょ？",  but I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding what she says right after "発進" but before "これならいいでしょ？" since she says it in such an excited voice.

0:46 - I'm pretty sure Lia is saying "まあ、いい子"  for this line, but I just wanted to double check to make sure I heard it right.

1:07 - Currently, I'm hearing Elner say "航宙" followed by "が出てるでしょう",  but it sounded like Elner said something in between that, that I can't quite make out.

So I reviewed your YouTube link and this is what I could come up with:

0:14 - Yuna at first says "発車していい？". 発車 would apply to something like a train departing. Elner's following comment about a train is in reference to that. Then Yuna corrects herself by saying 発進, which is more appropriate to a spaceship launching. The full line seems to be "発進オーライ！これならいいでしょう？"

オーライ is an adapted version of "all right" that's apparently used by people directing traffic. I found a bit of info about that at the following site: https://car-me.jp/articles/10628

So the joke there would be Yuna used the right term (hasshin) but is still mixing the spaceship up with a bus or train.

0:46 To me this just sounded like まあ、いいか - which I would translate as "oh well" or something similar.

1:07 This was a really tough one. I had to slow the video down to x0.25 to be able to hear what she was saying. As best I can tell, the syllable after 航宙 is ず, which I took to mean 航宙図 (aeronautical map). So perhaps the line is that they're leaving the mapped or charted area. That would fit with the following line about Yuna needing to follow Elner's directions.

This translation issue was pretty much the last roadblock I was facing before being able to upload my first translated Let's Play video of this game.  Now all I have to do is record footage of the first hour and a half of gameplay, time the subtitles, and finally, do a little good old fashioned QC before making it public.  Hopefully, I should be able to get that out sometime in December, along with the first version of my WIP translation guide.

Even better still, although I've only technically translated the first 1/5th of overall gameplay, since the middle of the game largely consists of battle sequences with lots of reused dialogue, in terms of the overall script, I currently have more like 1/3rd of the game's total script translated into English.  This hopefully should also mean that I'll be able to get subsequent videos up in a shorter timeframe.  If I keep this up, I imagine that at this rate I'll have, at the very least, a working draft of the entire game translated by around 2nd to 3rd quarter 2021.

Yuna: ね、ね、どこいくの？ [Hey, hey, where are we going?]
Elner: 航宙図がでてるでしょう？ゆなの指示に従います [You have (/There's) a navigation map, no? We'll follow your directions.]
Yuna: あ～あたしが選ぶのね [Ah... I'm the one who has to choose, uh.]

 The map is presumably on some screen in the ship.
