Thanks for the feedback, my friends. Regarding the rearrangement of the screen to be similar to Arcade, it is a very difficult process, as the backgrounds in the SNES version are not isolated and, if I modify one thing, something else can automatically change, without my will.
What if you cloned the character select code, and redirected it to your own artwork? then hack the game so that it loads your new character select?
then you wouldn't be touching the old tiles, and you'd be more in control of what's repeated and all.
I don't even know if that's possible, just trying to come up with ideas.
but if that's possible then you could make a slightly smaller character select that fits everybody on.
