NES Double Dragon
« on: December 14, 2019, 01:58:26 pm »
Hey Everybody!  Took a little break from Robocop and did some work on Double Dragon.

Changed the palette's of the Lee brothers to be more like the arcade.

Made the girlfriend a little more curvaceous and gave her longer hair.  The scene where the thugs kidnap her is now rated PG-13.  ;D

Looks great.

Though the holy grail for this game would be to implement a simultaneous 2 player mode, like has been done for P.O.W., Duck Tales 2, & Super Mario Bros, since this game actually calls for it. I wish I had the savvy to figure it out, but it's beyond my skill set.

Thanks aml435!  Yeah 2 player mode would be awesome. If I had the skills I'd do it.  Maybe we can see if one of the guys that hacked the games you mentioned would be willing to tackle Double Dragon?  ;)

Thanks Googie, I'm glad you like it. ;D I know it's not much of a hack but I just didn't feel like working on Robocop the other night so I whipped this up.

It looks like Double Dragon was converted to MMC5 recently, hopefully someone, or maybe a team, will come along and do an amazing overhaul.

I made a palette hack already. I didn't fix Marian tho. Pretty good job on that.

1) PG-13 films have women getting punched in the gut and hauled away like freight? Kids these days... :D (I'm kidding)

2) Final Fight's 30th Anniversary Edition features a new 3-player capability which the original arcade game did not support. Extending the number of players from 2 to 3, however, may be a lot easier than going from 1 to 2.

If I were going to undertake such a project (and I'm not), I'd almost think it'd be easier to do a graphics/music hack of Double Dragon 2 to make it appear to be Double Dragon 1. Introducing 2-player capability into such an early (and kinda janky) NES game which does not have it seems insane beyond imagining to me.

Hey Spooniest!  Well, there's at least 26 people out there that know what I mean with the PG 13 rating.  ;D  Thanks for trying my hack guys!

Yeah man, that's crazy.  Haven't tried it yet but it looks like Grego and Rotwang did an amazing job.   Never thought I'd see a 3 player Final Fight.  Never thought I'd see a 2 player simultaneous Super Mario Bros either.  So many creative/talented people on this site.

I kinda like the idea of fixing the janky games though, hence Robocop.  These games should have been sooo much better.  I want to show everybody what could have been. ;D

Just so I'm clear, it's that you removed her bare butt and panty shot from the animation of Williams carrying her away?

... I thought that's what you meant, but it's unclear from the screenshot.

Oh no no, the panty shot is still there.  Come on now, I wouldn't remove that.  You didn't notice the 8-bit nip slip?

Not only can't I see it, but i find it hard to believe that anyone would think that her lady parts are exposed at all.

Wait. Are you saying that you added this, and now it's PG-13?

The MPAA would like a word with you. That's a clear and full R rating.

Ok you're gonna have to catch me up. Was this a previous work of yours which you're now editing or is it someone else's work which you're making an addendum to?

When were the bewbs out? Are the bewbs out in the current version? Clarify, Ya ... Old ... Guy...

What gives? Showing bewbs is not PG-13, you get an R rating for that. You said it was PG-13.

Now, just for the sake of full disclosure, I think the entire idea of the rating system is horse shit, and I'm not against someone drawing teats if their heart is just set on drawing teats. But you're not properly conveying the analogous MPAA rating.

Then why did you say it was PG-13?

Have you ever seen a PG-13 rated movie?... Teats are a strict no-no in PG-13 rated movies.

You can show poop, say cuss words like 'bitch' 'piss,' 'ass' and 'shit,' (as long as it's not too often) and show slightly more violent or sexually themed material.

Go overboard, show a nipple or any other nudity, say fuck, cunt or tits, or get too gory, and it's R Rating Country.

Famously, the movie 'Clerks' was slapped with an R rating purely for discussions about sex acts. It doesn't have any nudity or violence in it, per se.

Really, the MPAA are full of shit. But they do have a few rules which are strictly enforced.
