Why Transformers Headmasters FDS conversion doesn't work?
« on: April 29, 2019, 10:22:25 am »
In GoodNES you can find FDS conversion of Transformers Headmasters on 253 mapper - Transformers Headmasters (FDS Conversion) [b1].nes
However, it does not run on any emulator. :(
Why? Is there a fixed ROM? If not - how to fix it?..

Who knows with most of the bootleg junk cataloged by GoodNES.

NESDev defines Mapper 253 as a clone of Konami's VRC4 used by a Chinese translation of one of the DBZ games, which is already a weird enough combination.

Another thing is there is a chance of FDS conversions being done lazily by just distributing part of the ROM as a save file (which has certainly been lost) rather than to spend a great deal of effort to hack the game to correctly deal with the shifted memory map between FDS (RAM) and NES.

FDS conversions are junk anyway. It's 2019: every NES emulator can play FDS games, the Everdrive can play FDS games, the only reason someone would have for needing a conversion is to make a bootleg copy - sorry, 'repro' - in which case they can go to hell. :) Admittedly the FDS audio on the Everdrive doesn't sound so great, but you would lose that on a conversion anyway.

What I'm trying to say is, if you really want to play Transformers Headmasters, use the FDS version. ;)
