Hacking tools for SMAS and SMAS+W?
« on: April 01, 2019, 04:22:08 am »
Hello all. I want to make a hack of SMAS+W.
Do you have hacking tools to modify this ROM?
I want modify:
- Title screen sounds (the chatter): https://tcrf.net/Super_Mario_All-Stars#Title_Screen
- Princess Peach's letters in SMB3
Thanks.

If the title screen sounds are stored as BRR, then you might be able to replace it with one of the tools from https://www.romhacking.net/?page=utilities&category=7&platform=9&game=&author=&os=&level=&perpage=20&title=&desc=&utilsearch=Go – at least, as long as your new sample is the same size or smaller than the old one.

As for Peach's letters, I doubt there's a utility for editing those directly, but they're probably stored in the same way as they are in the NES ROM – though of course they might be in an entirely different location within the SMAS+W ROM.  SMAS reuses a lot of code from the NES ROM, so if you can find documentation about how those letters are stored (the NES SMB3 ROM is very thoroughly analyzed at this point; I'm sure the information is out there somewhere), then you should be able to extrapolate to the SMAS+W ROM.
