You can't really just do the Beatles as a sprite hack. At the very least, it needs custom music.

This is such a high concept idea, it's just begging for someone to knock it out or the park.

Yes, I totally agree. like I said, this is not finished.
I really like to nurture this brain child of mine but I'll just have to wait until the launch of the SMB2 music editor by dtothefourth.

So,still now news on the music editor. But now I've managed to get some time to start working on level design. I got to take inspiration from the film.

There's still much to do with the graphics as well. The bosses need to be replaced with characters from Yellow Submarine.

I'll get by... with a little help from my friends.

Ok, I've learned a whole lot during these weeks!
I'm pretty proud of the sprite editing, I think it's a good representation of The Beatles.


A distant concern at this point, probably, but those should read "Pepper's" and "Colors".  (Possibly "Colours".  But not "Coulours".)

I love the Beatles is there anyway you can change the story to say "Once upon a time or maybe twice there was an unearthly place called pepper land 40,000 leagues beneath the sea it lay or lie I'm not too sure." also make the vegetables maybe heats or even just the word love maybe even make the levels resemble the seas they traverse in the movie my mind is overflowing with ideas right now i am really excited for this hack :woot!: :woot!: :woot!: :woot!:

I can almost hear the narrator's voice and it would be cool to have that introduction but I can only fit so much text and I like it to explain why The Beatles are the Lonely Hearts Club Band all of a sudden.

The vegetables should change into something. Hearts maybe. Or musical instruments? 

I'd love to discuss ideas with anyone who may be interested. Like I said I could use a little help with level design, if any one's interested?

This project is not dead but I've been super busy lately. A fellow (YoungBoy) on my Discord channel did some graphics and I reinterpreted them to fit the general style of the game.

Since I'm still having huge trouble in changing the music, perhaps I should just release this current version (without The Beatles music or new levels) here on RHDN?

If I'm going to finish the music by myself we're looking at at least another year or two of learning, composing and hacking.

I'm a huge Beatles fan and couldn't have been more excited for this.
I see that you want to implement Beatles music, but don't know how and you're waiting for the music editor to be created and use it.
I have been reading some documentation of how the SMB1 music is written on the ROM, and started to compare it with SMB2. It seems that its written in a similar way (not sure up to what point).
I see there's the ROM map for SMB2, and it is helpful in locating each track, as well as its pointers, headers and music data.
I have modified a few notes (and rhythm) of Pulses 1 and 2 for the title screen, but I still need to experiment and document a little more in order to know how it is done properly. But, I would love to adapt the music.
I saw that you had a couple of music lists intended for the game but, have you decided which songs and where do you plan to put them?

I have also managed to change some things in boss battle music with Birdo. I would rather focus on graphics and level design.
I could compose the music in Famitracker but that's just for reference, since the smb2 music engine is something completely different.

If you are willing to take on the challenge with hacking the music I couldn't be happier!

Instead of just using the default Mario 2 USA music?

That's all i really want to know.

I've seen Mario graphics hacks and that's about it.

Is it really being worked on?  Or is it possible the Music changing you are going to do might not happen anyways?

Also:  What program are you using to change the music?

I see. Better to keep doing process than wait for a tool that might not be ready that soon.

It's a good idea to use Famitracker for reference, but yeah, the engine on SMB2 is a different story.

I would love to! I just need to document carefully to have what it's needed pin down, so attempts for implementation can be done effectively.

I figured the game should start in Liverpool. And then you work your way to Pepperland.

- Make warp jars also work outside subspace
- Make mushrooms also work outside subspace

This is awesome. A Beatles video game is what all Beatles fans need. I mean since the Beatles were pretty popular, I think a Beatles video game would work out best, especially with a game that's being spruced up to please them. :laugh:
